    Hello:

The little gold piece of metal inside the tip of my Dell Inspiron laptop broke off.

Is it ok to run the laptop without it?

What is the purpose of that small little piece of metal?

    Thanks,

My bad. I don't mean inside the laptop.

I mean the one inside the end of the charging cord.

I am unable to upload a photo.

It is inside the end of the round tip of the plug. The thing you stick into the computer.

Isn't that supposed to be the thing that delivers the power?

Might be the grounding wire though. Is the laptop still on warranty?
