Does anyone know if a new 6G iPod will be coming out soon?
-
There's rumours of a Special Event by Apple in September for the release of new iPods. Expect it then.
-
I really hope they didn't go NAND Flash for the 6G Ipods. But thats a rumor the Taiwanese manufacturers are throwing. But, back on topic, Apple seems to refresh the Ipod line around August/September. And its about time for one.

I would love a touchscreen iPod...that would be cool.
-
What they need is a widescreen touchscreen iPod. Not an iPhone. Just the size of the normal iPod
Something like that. Preferably in the same price range as the current iPods. -
that would be awesome. i would definitely pay another $400 for one of those.
-
fingerprints and scratches would be terrible on that thing
-
Not if they use glass though that makes it a bit heavier.

Amazing... 5 generations of flimsy electronics that in 90% of the cases don't last a year after the warranty is out, and people are *still* hyped up about it.

Cowon DAP's pwn Apple iPods.

I find the issues are more with the hard-drive based Ipods, which any hard drive based MP3 player will have because of the sheer amount of moving parts.
I guess thats a reason to go with flash memory but that costs a fortune from a capacity/cost view. -

Agreed with OP, I much prefer flash based DAP's over HDD based DAP's.

Next iPod has essentially been confirmed as an iPhone without the phone part. No word on wifi, but it will run the same OS X "Mobile" operating system as the iPhone, and have a touch-based widescreen. Probably will have a hard drive as well.
And the problem with flash based DAPs is that they lack storage space. Its not so bad for audio, but for video they really don't have the space. The ones that have SD expansion slots escape because of the 8 and 16GB SD cards, but ones that lack that are essentially screwed (iRiver Clix). -
iPods do fall apart thoughI bought an iPod mini in 2005 and it's still an incredible music player, but the "MENU" and ">>|" buttons are wonky now. I handle gadgets carefully (never dropped it, but I do expect something to work just sitting in its own pocket). Those people who say their's fell apart in 2 weeks are the ones who shove optical drives

i want one

Skipped over the 1st 5 generation of Ipods, probably gonna skip over the rest of the generations as well.
my main reasons for not buying the video ipod
1. only plays mp4, none of my movie files are in mp4,, too much of a hassle to convert and transfer
2. crappy video battery life
3. itunes
lol weird for an Apple stock owner, I sure hate every single Apple product.
