Earlier as some of you know i had heating problems with my laptop..i used passive cooler but it was not that effective.
i just got this $10 active cooler yesterday..
hooked it up.. and whoa! even during Gaming there was a 15 degree drop in temperatures!
if u like i can post the pics.
what i mean is each notebook has a unique heat flow & hence Zalman is not always the best choice.
Edit:
Cooler Brand: No idea! its just a generic Made-in-China Cooler
Power: USB 2.0 ..also works with extended USB hubs.
Number of Fans: 3 (Three)
Cooling Principle: Blowing Air, it blows Cool air from the bottom of the Chassis (most are Sucking air...they suck out air)
REASON of purchase: Passive cooling inefficient, I got the Cooler FREE on demand with purchase of Gaming desktop![]()
PICS: (Click on them to view full size)
The Package:

The Cooler on my table:

Average Temperatures before Cooler:
CPU:-
Max: 82 Degree celcious (when Gaming)
Min: 52(When idle)
GPU:-
Max: 92 Degree celcious (Gaming)
Min: 68 Degree celcious
Conclusion: Mindblowing! ....Zalman is $80 & Cooler master is $60 in my area..so i am **** happy i saved on that.

Who makes the cooler that you got? Asking as I didn't see it in your post, and I'm curious.
-
what else is new?
i assume that 15 degree drop is in F not C? -
10 dollars? why spend that much??? just get a 3 dollar pack of sticky notes
-
glad to hear u found a cheaper solution. what did u end up goin with?
quit postin this same thing in every cooler thread.
any amount of sticky notes will never be able to compare to a proper cooler-notebook combo. -
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
i got the Antec COoler S for free after rebate
not bad... it raises the laptop up, blows cold air thru the bottom..... my m1330's output fan is at the back.... design seems right for my laptop
see a 5degC drop in my GPU idle temp.... not bad... -
This is what I did, better than any cooling pad you can get since it sucks the hot air right out:
It's my old X850Xt cooler that I replaced, runs at 5v USB, fits perfectly into the exhaust side -
You do know that if the bottom of your notebook sucks in and exhausts on the side and you are sucking are with strong power from around the actual fan area you can damage your fan?
-
The Passive cooling is sufficient for normal use & that too if u have intel chip.
For AMD + Gaming u need an Active cooler...Zalman was too expensive & the design wasnt suitable for my notebook...
I could have a bought a $30 cooler which had cool Aluminium plating & awesome grilling but that again had an ineffective design.
I believe Notebook coolers have to be customly designed or match your laptops base design.
Anyway...i ll post the pics today... the temperature drop is 15 degree CELCIUS -
1)
You do notice that is stated in the notebook cooler guide and most cooler related threads so it is no new "revelation" for everybody.
2) You have not stated the component of the temperature decrease of 15C.
3)+1 -
cgg123321, that is awesome.
I have never seen anyone do that before. That is genious, and innovative.
The fan on the X850 is not very powerful, so it is definitely a good idea.
X2P, I dont think any problem can happen if you are sucking more than the internal one can blow. (that sounds so wrong, but excuse me). My reason being, is that the connection between the x850 cooler and the side of the laptop is not going to provide an airtight connection, so air will always be supplied from the outside as well.
Anyways, what cooler did you get for $10, I think we are all curious.
My homemade cooler cost quite a lot more than $10, but nothing can be more effective at dropping the temperatures, without some side of air conditioning. EBM all the way
- peak temperatures are never more than 20F more than room temperature
K-TRON -
I wasnt sure about the power of the x850 cooler so that is why I stated
Think about this scenario which I know someone who was dumb enough to do although it is a bit extreme (far weaker can cause the same damage). Mr. X decided to put the end of his vacuum nosol where his fan was. yes there are people who do that in this world, simply put his fan never turned another whirl. -
sorry this is so late, but that statement has been proven to be wrong, by chaz.
-
even for chaz the results will vary depending on notebook, believe it or not
-
even if god said that himself. i would tell god he is wrong.
-
To be honest, i got the cooler FREE...the $10 is retail price..
since i bought my new Gaming Desktops all hardware from the guy..he gave me the cooler free.
I agree...sorry i ve been little busy& lazy lately..
What i ll do is post a video on youtube & u guys can watch it.. -
My $13 one works great ...
-
For timing u guys can enjoy this: ..i am editing the video...will upload in 2 hrs
-
and this is why god hates you.
don't get mad at me for posting a contrary opinion, just because i don't like coolers doesn't mean that i am going to try to force you not to like them.
you are entitled to your wrong opinion just as i am entitled to my correct one. -
Also chuck in what the desk and or materials to lift the back of the notebook are made of.
-
The fact remains that no notebook cooler can ever compete with the price for cooling of a pack of sticky notes or something else to raise the back.
5 - 10 degrees @ FREE
vs
10 - 20 degrees @ 10+ dollars
no competition. -
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
well
free vs free*
* = 42 cents
u just have to wait -
Actually the way you stated it for 10$ you get double the cooling performance and what you have stated is wrong and varys from notebook to notebook and the surface it is used for and the enviroment. I have seen 30C+ drops with a Zalman NC1000. Every factor must be weighed in.
-
free for 10 degrees is still better than paying for more.
what kind of performance gain do you get with those extra 10 to 20 degrees -
Avoiding downclocks for quite a few on both processor/GPU. Avoid ruining your HD running at over 60C constant. Prolongs notebook life from less use of the fan to keeping components cool. Noise reduction (depending on cooler). Can allow for more overclocking headspace. etc
-
i'm buddhist, but jesus is one of my homeboys.
there are plenty of reasons why proppin up yur notebook cannot compare to a proper cooler-notebook combo. x2p lists most of them and can u use yur stick pads on a soft surface? most notebooks will get less than 5-10c temp drop with yur method.
don't get me wrong. it is a very affective way of gettin free cooling. i actually have 2 stacks of (7) quarters that i taped together. i use my quarters to prop up my notebooks everytime i use them off my cooler. -
I used to Advocate Passive Cooling..not anymore...the Results are astounding...
plus my cooler is **** Silent...more silent than laptops fan.
I was re-soldering the wires because they all seemed very poorly soldered...So now i have attached my Active cooler to my Previous Passive cooling stand .. Together they have elevated the Height & angle of my laptop to that of a Desktop monitor..so no more Neck pains. -
What's wrong with like $10-20 anyway? I mean, seriously.
-
im starting to think your just pulling everyone's leg.
no pics.
no mention of the cooler brand, name, etc. -
what i am saying is that idk if the extra 10 degrees is worth the money. will performance increase from being colder? (i don't believe so)
-
Dude as i mentioned ..i am making a whole video ... it was too long so i was doing some editing..but Windows movie maker crashed..
Let me upload pics instead.
EDIT: PICS UPLOADED ... Check them out HERE -
Well if you don't know, how can you make a judgement against coolers?
and i think someone made the arguement that a cooler is there for more than just a performance increase, and i don't really think anyone would buy a cooler just to get a little more performance UNLESS of course they are planning to overclock at which point every degree lowered can make a difference in speed and stability -
i have seen that cooler everywhere!
doesnt that draw air away from the notebook not to? that is the only reason i can think of me why i have no tried this cooler already.
EDIT: nevermind...reread your first post. You said it does "suck air out" correct? -
1)
Not true that the Zalman is 80$
2) State the constant room temperature and if there were any fluctiations of the room temperature durring testing
3) Could you post a readable pic of the back of the box please? Its Japanese but I havent spotted that cooler once here in Japan. -
Well a Zalman NC2000 can run you about $65 shipped from newegg just in the States. But I think he was talking about in Singapore its $80. Is it, I dont know, but just clarifying.
-
Would be good if he stated that on the front page
-
He did say "in my area" and his location is listed as "Singapore"
-
oh ok I guess I am blind >.<
-
I post all Rates converted to US dollars for your convenience.
so 80USD is around 110 SGD.
2) dude, this is not a Science Experiment lab...btw..my Air con is always ON.
3. Okay i ll post a more close up of the box. -
WOW 80$ for a Zalman no wondor you skipped any other option
Actually it matters quite a bit as it is a major issue. People are posting many reviews on coolers without posting their room temperature any any fluctionations. How much a cooler cools has alot to do with results people get. For example with a 20C room temperature (Constant) I can achieve up to a 20C drop in temperature vs with a 28C room temperature I may only acheive a 13C drop in temperature.
Cheers -
My approach to cooling is as follows:
Take 4 Del Monte fruit jars (6 inches high) and put them at the four corners of the laptop. Put the laptop on top of the jars. Use a $9.95 Radio Shack Thermaltake USB fan on something that will raise the fan to near the base of the laptop. Plug it into a USB port and watch temperatures go down. The nice thing about this solution is that you can move the fan around to where it does the best job of cooling. Another benefit is that you can use two fans if you want to but an externally powered USB hub might be needed. -
X2P brings up a good point. I never see anyone including room temperatures. It really would make a difference.
-
mmoy could you post a link to the radioshack fan?
-
It's a closeout item in stores only. I went to three local stores and bought one per store (that's all they had). The store owners said that they wouldn't be getting anymore. So we have one fan per MacBook Pro right now. I would like a few more so that I could leave one at the office and one at my son's apartment so that we wouldn't have to carry them around. The Antec fan is available at Amazon but they're $14 + shipping. We used to use one of those on an old Pentium 4 laptop but the USB plug broke.

日本人ですか? It actually brings misleading approaches to all reviews as review X could have tested in 20C while review Y tested in 30C.
-
日本人 ですか
Japanese people do what??? -
it says "Are you Japanese?"
-
got that same cooler here in jakarta for $5. works well for that price, got about my laptop ran 7-8 degrees cooler. now using coolermaster notepal infinity which i got for $35. That cooler did a great job, especially for the price I paid.
A $10 Notebook cooler is cooling so effectively
