Okay guys, I'm new here so welcome all.
1st thing I would like to say is that I just purchased a case fan from radio shack. I strip only the red and black wires and connected it to the red and black wires on the usb cable. Okay the fan spins and you feel little air, but I don't think thats how fast the fan should spin. Here is the fan specs
    RATED VOLATAGE- 12v
    Started voltage- 6v
    reted current 0.16a
    Power input 1.92w
    fan speed 2000 +/- 10%RPM

So the fan lights up and everything, but it spins slow. That is my dilema.

Other thoughts I'm trying to make a homemade laptop cooler, and i decided to try one fan to see if it works. Did anybody make a notebook cooler please share how you did it and your opinions.

Is there to control the fan speed via usb software. I know theres software like speedfan to control the cpu fan but is there software to control this homemade usb fan.

Agian, any help will be apreciated.

    Thank you, MIke :D

You need a 5 volt fan, running a 12 volt fan on USB's 5 volts isn't going to get you anywhere.

The vents on the bottom or sometimes the side of notebooks is usually the air intake. The exhaust is usually located at the back.

So you place the fans beneath the notebook hotspots (like the HD) and intake.

Im not sure with what fans they have on newegg, so ill let someone else comment on that.
