*****PLEASE READ ALL OF TEXT TO PROVIDE HELP******

Ok, let me make one clear statement. THE TARGUS CHILL MAT IS MADE TO GO IN THE GARBAGE. It is completely useless in EVERY way besides notebook elevation, provides no cooling whatsoever. I actually get lower temps without that piece of sh*t.

I am now in search of a new cooling pad that is accually worth my money.
    I own a Sony VGN-FZ290 15.4" notebook (<3).

The fan (or vent) configuration on the bottom of my notebook is quite dispersed. It has 5 different vents and each is located at numerous locations (not crammed in one spot). My guess is, i need a cooling pad that can cool the whole surface of the laptop.

    Can anyone offer suggestions?

    Also! My temps are

    GPU: 49C > 8400M GT DDR3
    core 0 (CPU): 44C
    core 1 (CPU): 44C
    HDD: 30C

When playing games my GPU and my CPU can reach about mid 60's.

I really want to overclock my GPU card but i cant do so without a cooling system.

    My questions are.

how many intervalls should i test my core clocks at (by 2,5,10)
    What are artifacts?

    Thanks!

    Your temps are fine.

If you want a new cooler, I would recommend to look towards the:
    - Zalman ZM-NC1000
    - maybe Cooler Master Infinite.

I have tested over 15 coolers, and owned at least 6.

The Zalman ZM-NC1000 (for up to 15.4") or ZM-NC2000 (for 17"+) are the best for overall improvement due to their design for cooling the entire bottom of the notebook... rather than just certain spots like with basic coolers.

I got my Zalman online (i forgot from who, ZZF or newegg)... but I got it in 1-2 business days (standard shipping)... since their distribution center is an hour or so away from me... in LA area :)

As for the temps, it will vary from notebook to notebook, but it was the only cooler that was able to cool my videocard area with the "air hockey" like stage. :D

i recommend standard shipping, but if you can't wait you could pay a premium for overnight shipping.

the zalman 1000 is solid and built very well. it has a nice tilt, adjustable fan speed, and powered by USB. had mine for 2 months now and no problems at all.
