I know this isnt exactly related to laptop accessories, but I felt I had to share:
Last year I purchased a Back-UPs XS1000 for a little over 100 dollars (not exactly cheap) for the desktop. Well last week, the unit went into battery mode after a brief outage, and would not switch back to AC mode even with AC restored. This happenned a few times. The only way it would do so is if I turned off the unit manually and restarted it. I called APC and was told either the battery is not charging properly or the unit is defective. We all conluded it was the unit. I proceeded to tell the rep that I was not going to ship this 40 pound beast to him, and he cut me off telling me that they would ship out a new one (same model) to me at NO CHARGE. Well now its 4 days later and the new unit arrived. Talk about a company standing behind its products. I told the rep what do I do with the old one and he said "well if it doesnt work throw it out, we dont want it" I am really inpressed with APC and just wanted to let anyone know who is considering which backup battery system to buy that APC is the way to go.
I have no financial interest in the company and have not been paid by anyone for this endorsement

I've been hesitating on calling APC because my UPS (I have the same one as you, actually) doesn't like to turn on after it's been turned off, but I don't want to be without a UPS for a week or more while I ship this one off and wait for a new one. Given what you've said, it might be worth it to see if they'll just send me a new one. After my UPS has been turned off, when I hit the power button, the indicator light blinks for about 30 seconds, then it goes on battery for about 10 seconds, then it just goes on. If I try booting my computer before the indicator light goes steady green, it won't boot. My old UPS did the same thing... but neither did that when they were first new.
