    Hello,
My desktop pci card, ATI Radeon 9700, came with a S-video to RCA converter and I tried to use it on my nVidia go 7600 on my lappy, hp dv9207us, but after I hooked it up to my TV and went to the settings ,it did not detect the TV. What kind of cable do I need to buy to have rca out on my nvidia go 7600?

is it the same number of pins? and i think it needs to be exactly the same to work. dont think its an issue of different cables being used.

There are S-video to RCA adapters that you can find at Radioshack (aka 'the source'... dumb name). Its just a small little plug with a Svideo connector on one end, and a RCA out on the other.. cost about 10 bucks CDN.

The s vid out has 7 pins and the ATI s video has 7 pins as well. I tried going to the nVidia properties to detect the TV but that did no good. I tried pressing FN+F4 but that did not work either.

Perhaps their is a problem with the cable, or with the RCA input on the TV.

The cable works fine on my ATI when I plug it into the same TV. Maybe each pin is different betwene the ATI and nVidia.

S-Video out should only have 4 pins...S-Video in has 7 pins...How many pins did which port have on which card?

Its not a S-Video out. It is a dongle connector. Not sure if you can plug a S-Video straight into it but I wont be surprised if the dongles pins are different.

The s video port on the Radeon 9700 Pro has 7 pins, the port on the laptop also has 7 pins. The radeon I can hook up to the TV fine, but my laptop cannot detect that it is plugged into a tv.

Been messing around and still can't get it. Ok, so on my laptop, the HP dv9207us, I tried going to the video properties, but it does not detect the TV. I tried pressing FUNC+F3 for the monitor button but still no good.

I would imagine that it was cheaper for compal to just use the same port for all the laptops they manufacture in the factory. If it was capable of detecting the TV it would have been advertised when you bought the laptop, and I am sure the seller you bought it from would have jacked the price on your laptop too as a result of the extra feature.

It's because the 7 pins don't have quite the same function on the nVidia and ATI card. Get a generic composite adapter instead. Or use a S-video cable, since it's a better cable.
