Will a laptop skin make my laptop look weird when I take it off? Like on the exposed areas?
You know how sometimes things change color because of sun and environment exposure? Well what if I put a skin on my laptop, Dell Studio 1555, and then take it off a year later. Will the parts that were exposed be a different shade?

If you or your friends/family are smokers, yes. If you use your laptop exclusively in the sun, perhaps. I've been using a Zagg invisibleSHIELD for the past 18 months or so and have not noticed any detrimental effects on my laptop. However, I don't smoke and my laptop rarely spends any time outside in the sun.

    do skins look cheesy?
Dell has a studio design thing and it's $85 which is quite pricey, and permanent
do skins offer protection from scratches etc

Well, if you buy your skin from Zagg, then yes, their invisibleSHIELD skin offers substantial protection from scratches etc. Since all Zagg invisibleSHIELD skins are clear, they don't look cheesy or gaudy on your laptop, and actually look quite nice. You can see a demonstration of a Zagg shield in action by clicking the following link:

HE DIDN'T JUST DO THAT!! Dang...that iPhone, aww maaaaan, they could've just given that to me.

Anyways, I've used a sort of laptop skin on my Lenovo, although the one with the decorations on it.. It keeps your laptop scratch-free, alright, but they take the scratches instead--not good if you don't want to show damage. Also, some laptop skins get "burned", that is, the colored (or designed) area suddenly shows white patches or something the longer you use the laptop. As I've observed on the notebook it does no direct damage whatsoever, although the laptop skin would start sort of.....decomposing.

    ...or maybe I just bought a low-quality one, there's always that. :D

So maybe you should invest in that invisibleSHIELD. Might get one myself. :D
