I want to protect my investment of an HP Pavilion dv6500t notebook by purchasing a surge protector. The only problem is that I have no clue what kind to buy. My knowledge concerning this type of hardware is very limited; I know not how one connects to an adapter. So, armed with that information can anyone suggest a quality surge protector?
Budget: $35 or more if the device is worth it.

I use this APC Essential SurgeArrest 1 Outlet W/Tel 120V.
It's pretty cheap and small. You just plug it into the wall and plug your computer's power to it.
You can also have a look at the other notebook surge protectors by APC. -

I like APC in general. I think you would be safe buying one of their products.

I just use a Belkin power strip with surge protection built in.

I use Ultra UPS from tigerdirect.com, its seems pretty good right now and only cost me like 20 bucks for each, I got 2 for my laptop area and tv area in my dorm room. Um they ahve a 40 dollar version and etc more expensive but I find it to be sufficient for what I ahve.

i reckon any brand that will cover your equipment should be good enough.
