I found a cool site the other day when looking for a NC10 Keyboard picture.

    Pective.com

Its a great idea, the site will ask you the diagonal size of your monitor when you view a picture and scale it on your screen to be real life size. This makes knowing how big something is possible without seeing it in person, it would be a great way to compare accessories.

If you upload a picture, it is going to make you draw a selection box onto the image and then tell the server in MM or Inches the length & width of that box in real life per the image. So take your time and use a ruler and get it right.

The only problem so far I see is that it tends to butcher the quality severely if it has to scale it certain ways.

Im going to start a collection of shots in this thread of things I have and invite everybody else to share there accessories and other things that would fit well into this thread (touchpads, mice, headphones/earphones, ect) be sure to have a direct perspective of the object in your photo.

It really works! I tested it with my Asus 1000H keyboard first, it matched up 100% to real life on my 15.4" G50V screen (16:10) and then when I got home I tried my 37" Desktop Screen (16:9) and it was still perfect real life size.

So here are my shots below.

    Asus EEE 1000H Keyboard - http://pective.com/pic/eee-1000h-keyboard

    Asus G50V-A1 Touchpad - http://pective.com/pic/asus-g50v-a1-touchpad

    Logitech G7 - http://pective.com/pic/logitech-g7

    G7 Battery & Charger - http://pective.com/pic/logitech-g7-battery-charger

    Pending Stuff:
    G7 USB Dongle
    Logitech Nano
    Nano Dongle
    4x5 Wacom Graphire Tablet
    Top of EEE 1000H
    Side of EEE 1000H
    EEE 1000H Power Brick
    Audio Technica A700 Headphones

Sometimes it may not look true but if I hold it up to the screen its a perfect match!

I will add more stuff soon.

Well, a cool idea, but only inputting the diagonal size of the monitor is not enough. Resolution also matters, perhaps the site reads the current resolution of the browser, which makes sense..

I hope somebody like Google (Picasa) picks up on this and makes it better.

The main problem I have is that I upload giant high res pics and it down scales it so much. Then when you have to draw the selection box you doing it on a small image at a far out zoom level so its hard to get it perfect. Even 3 pixels off would make the difference in a 100% perfect scaling image.

They need to let you zoom in on the image to do that part, and also if possible keep the images larger and scale them down or up as needed rather than a pretty small image that will most of the time be scaled up. Still its darn close. Holding up the real item to my screens it is 99% within the size of the real thing.
