I have a Qosmio X505-Q896 and I believe that USA runs 120 volts. I think that Sri Lanka runs on 230-250 volts. I am going to travel to Sri Lanka and plan on bringing my laptop for use there. I am worried about the voltage difference and that it may destroy my laptop. I am wondering if I just need to get a universal travel adapter and if my laptop cable brick will simply do the job and convert the voltage? Or do I need a special adapter that converts volts? If anyone could show me a website link with the product, that would be great. Thanks!

Or am I just wasting my time here because my laptop uses modern electronics and it figures it out all by itself? Meaning I only need a simple adapter without the voltage change?

I would be worried about a different plug (if it is) not about voltage. Take your adapter and read Voltage specs. They are usually from 100 to 230 V.
    But you better check it.
Don't know about Sri Lanka but in Europe are in use different pluggs (2 rounded) not 2 flat. So you better find it or buy there. They should be for couple backs in USA and much cheaper in Sri Lanka))

If Sri Lanka is like India, they used both the UK and EU plugs....

Yes I do believe Sri Lanka is like UK. They use rounded plugs. So I just need to buy an adapter that fits a US plug and the adapter fits into the rounded holes in Sri Lanka right? I don't have to worry about voltage difference? Does my laptop cable brick detect voltage and convert it on its own?

Hey I'm from SL. You can buy cheap multi-plug from hardware store(s) located in every town (Like $1-$2) and also we use rounded holes(5A/230V)
