I can't seem to get my desktop speakers to work on my Acer Aspire notebook. I tried plugging them into all the inputs (line-out,headphone & mic) and get nothing. The internal speakers still work. I can't see any conflicts under the sound settings.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Thanks!
Shane

Are they self-powered? This is going to sound dumb, but make sure they're plugged in.

They're not self-powered. I just plugged them into my sound card on my other PC and they worked fine. I figured there something different with the notebook.

I have a nice pair of Boston Acoustic speakers, but they dont work with my computer. My problem: they are digital and I'd need an S-Video cable for it to work. If you get speakers, make sure they are analog unless you know that you can use digital speakers.

S-video for speakers? Forgive me if I'm being ignorant, but last time I checked S-video was only used for video not audio. That and S-video is still technically analog.
Nonetheless, the comment about the digital line out is still true. You will need a digital line out port or an external sound card. Can you tell us what the specific model of your speakers are?

What I meant was that my digital output is in my s-video jack.. say if the LCD that I was connecting to had speakers, or was rigged to an amplifier.
