Im after some decent looking 2.1 speakers but theyve also got to sound clear and powerful and i think what it comes down to is the Klipsch ProMedia GMX A-2.1 or the Logitechs Z-2300.

Granted the sub of the logitech is much more powerful and has full range sattelites but the Klipsch, in my opinion looks better on stands (sattelites)especially if i can find a place in the UK who actually sells the **** things and also have dedicated mid and tweeters, so i presume will offer much more distinguising sound reproduction?

Has any users experienced them both? i wud welcome any advice thx!

If you are listening to music, I recommend the Klipsch. They are known for a better range, especially the mid-range.

For gaming, movie watching, and light purposes, the Logitech is better. Logitech also makes affordable 5.1 systems as well.

IF you really want high end audio (sub 300$), Bose makes stereo speakers under the Companion line.

I recommend Klipsch all the way. I have the 2.1s from 5 years ago and they still run great. Logitech is good too, but I love Klipsch much more.

    yea....bose sucks....overrated and they are way overpriced...for $100...then maybe....

i'd rather hook up a pair of paradigm mini monitors for $300...they just blow bose away.....even bose's highest end line.....not even close...i dont even know how they expect to market speakers with 2" cones or however small they are....

ask any physics professor....its not possible to have great sound coming out of those small paper cone woofers(or lack thereof woofers...they can be classified as crappy tweeters)!

maybe if bose spent their time and money researching how to make better sounding speakers instead of marketing them to people at bestbuy with "THE BEST MONEY CAN BUY!" kind of attitude...people wouldn't feel ripped off by their crappy quality speakers.

I've heard $50 towers sound better than the $1000 bose acoutismass series...anyway you look at it....they suck.

the computer speakers I am using now are Logitech Z-5500's....they aren't the greatest....the highs are rolled off and very very bright(very obvious when volume is cranked up). The bass is definately not home theatre low....it probably hits around 50hz with reasonable quality. but overall the bass is muddy and not tight at all. mids are decent, nothing special. it's to be expected from a made in china speaker set that costed me $150usd. although I'm planning to get a pair of Athena B2.2's as front's with a decent 10" sub if the price is right.

im going off to college and i'm buying the logitech z2300. logitech's z2300 is way better than klipsch promedia. here's a simple review comparison:

    Klipsch Review
    7.9/10

    Logitech Review
    9.0/10

Here's some of my reasons why I would choose Logitech over Klipsch:
    1. Logitech's z2300 looks 10000x better than klipsch's 2.1.
    2. it provides satellite so it's easy to adjust sound and plug in headphones.
    3. z2300 is much more cheaper than klipsch
    4. it's by logitech, they make quality stuff and their service is top-notch
    5. both sound quality are great.

so at the end, logitech is my choice.

tasmonkey im looking at the Klipsch ProMedia GMX series which looks nothing like the old promedia in the review!!! however its down in power with the sub :( also personaly the Klipsch GMX is a wicked design with the gay wire speaker grilles removed, also the logitechs speakers are hard wired so u cant use your own wires or lengthen them and the speaker stands cant be removed which at the moment even tho it has a kick ass sound maybe a no go for me which is a shame but then again im reading loads of bad user reviews of hissing and returns etc about the Klipsch so i dunno what to do!

By any chance does any1 know any brand that makes a stand with this type of fitting arrangement so the whole body of the speaker shows? theve stopped makin them. grrr. ive been told its just a universal screw fitment 1/4 inch?

The Logitech z-2300's will be your best option out of those two. The Klipsch ProMedia GMX don't sound like the Ultras that Klipsch sells which are known to be very good. Don't even bother looking at Creative for a 2.1 setup. About the only thing they have that is decent is their expensive 7.1 setups. I've had a few sets of the z-2300's and they sound pretty good. I have the z-5500's now though and they are way better but of course take up more room and are more expensive.

The Logitech are definitely better than the Klipsch GMX. The older Klipsch Promedia are much better that the GMX and are on par(a little better IMO) with the Z-2300.

Cnet audio reviews make me chuckle a bit.

I consider myself a bit of an audiophile...and I must say my Klipsch are wonderful. I wasn't impressed with the Logitechs.

Agreed, Cnet always seem to come up with some odd ratings that often contradict most other reviews of any particular item.

I just got the Klipsch Pro Media Ultra 2.0's and I have to say that they are really impressive. I've heard a couple Logitech 5.1 systems and they are far from pristine in terms of actual sound quality. Lots of boom though, if you're into that sort of thing.

I wouldn't rely on wattage ratings either, the figures the companies give you are rarely indicative of how loud the systems will actually play without distorting.

And what's that Bose saying? "No highs, no lows..must be Bose"? A company that refuses to publish specs can't be trusted.

By all accounts, the new GMX Klipsch speakers do not sound as good as the older Pro Medias.

Most computer speakers are boomy and really sound pretty poor when compared to a decent home stereo system (and I'm not talking about the Wal-Mart type that look like they came back on the space shuttle from Mars). If I was planning on throwing more than $50 around on computer speakers, I wouldn't settle for anything less than the older Pro Medias. If looks are anywhere close to as important to you as sound quality, you'll probably be happy with pretty much anything.

Subwoofers are overated. If you live above the first floor and near other living human beings, you will most likely have to turn the bass down just to avoid getting those scary looking red notices on your door. I have several friends with 2.1 and 5.1 speaker solutions, and all of them have the bass dial defaulted at the low/lowest levels.

If you are looking for a quality 2.0 solution, check out the Logitech V20. Light, affordable, portable, USB powered, nice sound, nice bass when you need it. Only weakness may be midrange, so not for operas but great for gaming.

wouldn't the greatest weakness be the bass? Given that you're going for a purely 2.0 solution, reduced bass is expected though. I personally like the 2.0 Klipsche laptop speakers in addition to the v20s, though they are less portable.
