    Hello Guys,

I have a HP Pavillion Sleekbook 14 that need a battery replacement.

Since the genuine battery cost $90.00 I want to know if the non genuine HP battery that I can find in Amazon or E-bay works for around $25.00 are as good as a HP genuine one.

Have any of you has experince using non genuine battery packs? Any advise

    Thank you for your help

If you want maximum life out of your battery and laptop, buy genuine. Battery pack is not one component that I would skip on. If you just need to get by for another year or so, buy a cheap one, and check rated WHr rating to see if it's same as original. Those cheap knock-offs use very cheap components.

Non original batteries are hit or miss, some will be good, some will be crap and some will be in between. If you can go original, go for that.

I'll also recommend the genuine battery. The OEM batteries are built with better components and to more specific tolerances.

My notebook has a nearly depleted battery but I haven't replaced it since I can't find a new OEM one in good condition (my notebook is too old). The other owners of my notebook model on this forum who have replaced theirs with non-OEM ones have had poor experiences.

Non-OEM batteries vary quite a bit in quality. Most of the time, they are made by a no-name Chinese manufacturer, and sold by a no-name distributor shipped directly from China. Sometimes you get batteries that do the job just fine. And when that happens, it's great!

But when you have problems, they become a pain-in-the-rear. Typical problems you'll run into with cheap knockoff batteries is that they don't hold as long of a charge; or they heat up quite a bit during charging; or their discharge power is inconsistant, causing your laptop to give you a lot of error messages that your battery isn't putting out a steady voltage and current. And worst of all, you're absolutely stuck at that point. Good luck trying to get a warranty replacement or customer service.

The only place I'd ever consider buying a non-OEM battery are places that have US-based support, and a reputation for good warranty / return policies. I know that Monoprice and Anker have gotten into selling non-OEM laptop batteries. Those companies do sell Chinese-made electronics, but they tend to contract with manufacturers that have a decent level of QC. And most importantly, if you do have some problem, they'll work with you to get your defective part replaced or refunded.

If you can't find batteries that fit your model of laptop on Monoprice or Anker, just bite the bullet and go with OEM. You'll be grateful that you did.
