I've found this old bottle of alcohol cleaner spray, which i've been using on my screen/keybaord(for oils etc). I need to make more, so if i have a 70% isoprophyl alcohol, how much should i use to how many parts of water?
like 5 ml 79% and 5 ml of water?
-
I would say keep the water content to a minimum, but denatured alcohol is your best bet, because that will not harm your computer.
-
...lolwut?
i only have iso alchol and distilled water -

What he is saying is just use the alcohol as it is.
-
ofc. so just use the alcohol as is?
and yay, caleb is back -
-
Well, for my alcohol solution I usually do 1/4 part brandy(Azteca De Oro is best) and 3/4 part pepsi one. If you want then you can use some water.
-
definately
tyvm all for your help. pure alchool it is -

I am not sure if using alcohol on the LCD screen is such a good idea. I just use a water moistened microfiber cloth on my screen
-
red absinthe FTW! favourite drink at the moment.

Alcohol is never a solution!
And iso-alcohol (methanol) can blind you!
But seriously, use iso-alcohol for your keyboard and a (slightly damp) micro-fiber cloth for your screen. -
I clean the screen (only when dirty) with 25% isopropyl alcohol and cleans it perfectly... I think using more than 25-30% is an unnecesary risk...
If you have a 70 % isopropanol solution, dillute it one third (1 part of your isopropanol + 2 parts of water) and you're good to go!
Try to use distilled water if you can, or bottled water at least, not tap. -

I just use a microfiber cloth without any water at all. I guess I am just paranoid with my laptop. Electronics+Water=

How does 70% Isopropyl Alcohol damage an LCD screen? I've been cleaning my laptop's screen using the alcohol straight from the bottle to a microfiber cloth about 3-4 times a week for the past 2 months (I've used up about half of a bottle O_O). Nothing has happened yet.
-
A small drop that could be left on there could seep through the keyboard onto the motherboard or the RAM and it could render your computer dead. Just a thought. I had a friend that had that happen....
-
-
how would you make 20 percent from 70?
-
I would dilute the alcohol as concentrated alcohol can ruin the finish on the LCD. I usually put alcohol (97%) on a paper towel then add some water to it to dilute it.

ah shoot, this is sad. i'm in calculus bc, isn't this chemistry? I'm taking ap chem now, i did try to do molar calculations, and i failed miserably. yes, pathetic, really
its really pre-algebra? ...i took algebra 1 4 years ago, lolits not AP chem?
-
lol, Its simple math, use that band aid theory(cross multiply two fractions) that I learned in like 7th grade and you'll have it. And the molar calculations are easy, the easiest part in chem I thought.

Hi.
All you need is a little fabric softener in some water , as it has anti-static properties.
But i did hear it was 50/50 water to alcohol , but i have not tried it my self.

Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
250 mL * .7 = 875 mL * .2
875-250 = 625 mL of water to 250 mL of C3H7OH [isopropyl alcohol - which, by the way, is NOT methanol, and won't blind you] -
-
Microfiber cloths FTW

-
I agree with Cin', no alcohol touches my computer. Microfiber cloths are great.
-
i just dab some alchohol onto a microfiber cloth, then start rubbing. never actually pour the liquid down.
-
Why alcohol? Why not just water?

Be careful using alcohol on the screen itself, it can destroy the coating.
I use 90% Isopropyl alcohol to clean my computers except for the screen, on which I only use water. It's better to use alcohol than water since alcohol dissolves oil/grease that may have accumulated on the computer, and it dries very quickly. It also kills germs; keyboards/mice are known to be germ cities.

Rubbing/Isopropyl alcohol is very cheap, only a dollar or two at a grocery store. -
yea, i have never used alcohol onto the screen, jsut the keyboard, palmrest, and the touchpad. anyone also use this?
