I've found this old bottle of alcohol cleaner spray, which i've been using on my screen/keybaord(for oils etc). I need to make more, so if i have a 70% isoprophyl alcohol, how much should i use to how many parts of water?

like 5 ml 79% and 5 ml of water?

I would say keep the water content to a minimum, but denatured alcohol is your best bet, because that will not harm your computer.

Well, for my alcohol solution I usually do 1/4 part brandy(Azteca De Oro is best) and 3/4 part pepsi one. If you want then you can use some water. ;)

I am not sure if using alcohol on the LCD screen is such a good idea. I just use a water moistened microfiber cloth on my screen

    Alcohol is never a solution!
And iso-alcohol (methanol) can blind you! ;)

But seriously, use iso-alcohol for your keyboard and a (slightly damp) micro-fiber cloth for your screen.

I clean the screen (only when dirty) with 25% isopropyl alcohol and cleans it perfectly... I think using more than 25-30% is an unnecesary risk...

If you have a 70 % isopropanol solution, dillute it one third (1 part of your isopropanol + 2 parts of water) and you're good to go!

Try to use distilled water if you can, or bottled water at least, not tap.

Why take any risk at all? Slight amount of water is fine, unless you are a total slob and touch your screen with food all over your hands.

How does 70% Isopropyl Alcohol damage an LCD screen? I've been cleaning my laptop's screen using the alcohol straight from the bottle to a microfiber cloth about 3-4 times a week for the past 2 months (I've used up about half of a bottle O_O). Nothing has happened yet.

A small drop that could be left on there could seep through the keyboard onto the motherboard or the RAM and it could render your computer dead. Just a thought. I had a friend that had that happen....

I don't know if it will damage it, but if 25% works perfectly, I don't see the point in using more concentrated (thus, more abrasive) alcohol.

The way I do it, there's no way a drop could fall on anything, because I barely moisten the cloth in alcohol. I don't apply the liquid directly onto the screen. I put the cloth on the mouth of the flask (20 ml flask, very small) and invert it for less than a second. That's it. I don't even have to dry the screen afterwards, because it doesn't get wet.

I would dilute the alcohol as concentrated alcohol can ruin the finish on the LCD. I usually put alcohol (97%) on a paper towel then add some water to it to dilute it.

That's true. I guess I just like wasting alcohol :p

That's how I do it, but I leave the bottle upside down for about 5 seconds, since my microfiber cloth is basically a sponge like thing. I don't have to dry it off either. It's all vaporized within seconds.

lol, Its simple math, use that band aid theory(cross multiply two fractions) that I learned in like 7th grade and you'll have it. And the molar calculations are easy, the easiest part in chem I thought.

    Hi.

All you need is a little fabric softener in some water , as it has anti-static properties.

But i did hear it was 50/50 water to alcohol , but i have not tried it my self.

    ViCi=VfCf

    250 mL * .7 = 875 mL * .2

875-250 = 625 mL of water to 250 mL of C3H7OH [isopropyl alcohol - which, by the way, is NOT methanol, and won't blind you]

Yeah, the only alcohol that touches my computer is the stuff I pour into my keyboard. And even then you have to be VERY careful that you don't fry your mobo. ;)

Be careful using alcohol on the screen itself, it can destroy the coating.

I use 90% Isopropyl alcohol to clean my computers except for the screen, on which I only use water. It's better to use alcohol than water since alcohol dissolves oil/grease that may have accumulated on the computer, and it dries very quickly. It also kills germs; keyboards/mice are known to be germ cities.

    More info on Isopropyl alcohol:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropyl_alcohol

Rubbing/Isopropyl alcohol is very cheap, only a dollar or two at a grocery store.
