I have not purchased the keyboard yet, I am hesitating because I fear wasting my money if it does not illuminate like it is supposed to.

I know a similar question has already been answered, however there are two factors to my case. I already own an Alienware M14x R2 Laptop and am in the process of building my desktop. When I received the laptop, I was also given a copy of the Alienware Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate to download (presumably in the case that I wanted to sell or needed to reset the laptop). I am wondering if it would be possible for me to use that copy of the windows 7 ultimate to dupe the keyboard into recognizing my desktop as an Alienware computer so that it might work.

Does anyone know if this is possible? I love the design of alienware's products and have had a wonderful experience with the laptop as well as the TratX mouse I own.

No. Unless the desktop is Alienware.

    1) don't worry about it. Yes, the keyboard will illuminate on any computer. You will need to download and install the alienware config software to adjust colors (AlienFX), but that's about it

2). Just FYI, alienware copies of windows are not locked down to alienware machines. They are just standard windows 7/8/10 copies, with the exception that they modified the bootup screen, user icons, and wallpapers to show alienware images. But those are all plain image files (JPG), and not anything that affects the core functionality of windows.

So you can run an alienware copy of windows on any machine, and run any copy of windows on an alienware machine, as long as you have a valid windows license key.

Glad to hear that all is necessary is AlienFX software for the keyboard.
