Before i purchased the Alienware Orion. It was worth the price but after roughly 2 months of use, the state of the bag looked horrible. The stitching in various places was coming out and there were 2 fairly large rips. It looked so bad to the point i was scared that the compartment which holds my laptop would just rip off while i was walking. I handled the bag with care. I was as gentle with the bag as i was with the laptop it carried. I even kept the sticker that stop the Alienhead from getting any scratches.

So i called customer service and they were happy to replace the bag free of charge. So day 2 of the bag i notice that on the top of the left strap the stitching was coming out a bit. I am seriously shocked at the quality of this bag considering the material used is ballistic nylon.

I don't really feel good about calling customer service to replace the bag... Again. So if the backpacks state gets any worse hopefully i can get a refund.

If it does come down to getting a refund and buying another back can anyone please suggest a good quality backpack. What i loved about the Orion was the Check Point friendly compartment. I travel quite often and going through security is a breeze and the weight distribution was amazing. i carried over 8kgs through school and the bag made it feel i wasn't even carrying that much. That's usually what i look for in a bag.

I was eying the Astro Scout. It may not have the ScanFast feature but i really like the look of the backpack.

Funny, I don't have that problem. I bring it to the university everyday with my XPS 17 inside along with some notes and textbook.

I personally haven't heard many complaints about the Orion's build quality, but then again most people don't seem to give enough weight to quality when considering backpacks. :( Most of the many backpacks and bags I've owned over the years have had similar problems to yours, although I don't exactly treat them with care. :p That said, I can vouch for Jansport and REI; these are the two brands I have never had a problem with. :D

your not alone, i did some research for buying a bag for may laptop, there are many people complaining about the quality issue with Orion backpack and how the straps start to rip off the backpack.

didnt get one because i need a bag that lasts the entire life of the laptop, typically 2 years.
