All you need to know about GAMING mouse​

Gaming mouse. The in-thing. The thing every guy wants & every n00b doesn’t understand.

Due to flooding of questions on Gaming mouse. I am creating this guide for all new Gamers who are looking forward to buy a Gaming Mouse.

Gaming is a field which demands exceptionally great products. Although for Casual Gaming you can do away with a $10 optical mouse. But once you reach a certain stage or you got money to spend you need Gaming Accessories.

The most important Gaming accessory is a Gaming mouse & hence I‘ll focus on Mouse only.

Q.Why do I need Gaming mouse for Gaming?
This is an interesting question. First things first.You don't need it you WANT it. Its like High Definition TV's. People still use CRT in many countries but lot of us are buying HDTV's now as we want better things.


If you play FPS (First Person Shooter) games only then do you need a Gaming mouse. This is due to the fact that Mouse undergoes maximum wear & tear during this Genre of gaming.
& for the Members here who play Counterstrike MODs, including Source. You might understand better what wear & tear I mean.
I’ve personally broken 6 normal mice before I went ahead & decided to buy my Razer Deathadder.
I used to play with a Made In China Laptop mouse.
But as I entered competitive Gaming & started playing in Clans I realized I need a proper mouse which won’t betray me.
FYI, A Professional Gamer moves his hands at very high speeds of upto 2.5 m/s.
Since Top CS players like f0rest play at Ultra-low sensitivity, the friction & stress a mouse undergoes is tremendous for an average $10 mouse.

There are different types of players who player at different Sensitivity:
High Sens: Top speed of 0.5 m/s
High sensitivity players don't tend to move the mouse very far when they're playing so they can make do with small mousepads. They have to keep a very firm grip on the mouse because the slightest movement translates to huge swings on the computer screen. High sensitivity players don't need to move their mice very fast.

Low Sens: Top speed of 2 m/s
Low sensitivity players tend to have huge mousepads because every movement is a full sweep of their arm. Many top Counter-Strike professionals use ultra low sensitivity. When they want to turn around 180 degrees it often takes two huge sweeps of their arm, and they need to execute that movement as quickly as possible. Low sensitivity players can hit very fast speeds of up to 2 m/s (78"/s) and sometimes beyond.

Medium Sens: Top speed of 1 m/s
Medium sensitivity players are somewhere in-between, and make up the majority of players. They can play on the standard small pads, but a larger mousepad can make gaming more comfortable. Medium sensitivity players can move the mouse quite fast at times, but not at ridiculous speeds.


There are some players that use even lower sensitivites than mentioned here, for example moving the mouse up to one whole metre (40") to turn 360 degrees. I would consider this quite extreme, but it should be taken into account so that test results go beyond what you might consider fast speeds. (Referenced)

If you haven't figured out what type of Gamer are you then let me help.

Types of Gamers:
1. Casual Gamers: Most of us lie here, we don't play to win, we play to enjoy, the journey is the prize. Casual Gamers also need Gaming mice because their regular mice will need regular replacement as it isn't built to take the heat.
Most of these Gamers play latest Games like Crysis, Bioshock, COD4 etc.

2. Competitive Gamers: These are the ones who have sudden jolts of Competitive primal instincts. One day they are on Couch with chips & the next day they are online with their online opponents PWNING them. They live normal lives but the Animal within comes out at Night. These gamers are nocturnal species who Play to Win at night. During the day they look like Clark Kent (Casuals). Most of these Gamers play games like CS, CZ, CSS, UT series. also HL2 or TF2 for a change.

3.Professional Gamers: Alrite, you ain't one if you are reading this. Professional Gamers already have achieved the Nirvana. They know everything. They know the machine they want. They are like David Beckham. They Play, they endorse, they earn. Gaming is their life.

4. Wannabe Gamers a.k.a n00bs a.k.a Addicts!: This is the emerging breed of Gamers who are just wasting their time. They got no talent to even quality the WCG rounds. They just buy Latest Computer with best GFX to play Counter-strike (lol). They play in College mostly. These are the breed which Drives the Sales of Razer Inc. .
There are also some who play tooo much, tooo n00b or too goood
Oh btw.. Some of them are Talented but they ain't winning Tournaments anytime soon.
These Gamers call themselves G@M3RS! meaning they have their Cool Nicknames.


By now you must have figured out where you stand.
So lets get down to some serious business.


Q. What companies make best Gaming mouse?
The top players in this industry are Razer Inc. , Logitech & Microsoft.
Microsoft often partners with Razer but Microsoft has made their own Gaming Mice too. (Sidewinder).

Other Less popular Companies making Gaming mouse are 'Genius' & ' Wolf King'.

I ll be explaining from scratch. So you can scroll further down if you find the initial stuff little lame.


Firstly, there are 4 Types of Mouse based on the Input technology. I am excluding Ball mouse as its a dinosaur & can be found in Geek Museums.

1. Optical Mouse.
2. Laser Mouse.
3. InfraRed Mouse. (also known as 3G IR - as marketed by Razer Inc.)
4. Wireless Mouse.

The Optical Mouse is the most popular among Gamers & NOT laser mouse.
This is because Laser mouse has high Lift - Off distance i.e. it tracks the surface even after being lifted above the surface for upto 10 mm.

This is not acceptable during Gaming sessions as when you reach the end of the mouse pad you need to pickup & bring your mouse to the center during which the cross-hair shouldn't move. With laser mouse this ain't possible so
Laser mouse is NOT for Gamers.

Dont fall prey to marketing by Logitech (G9) & Razer (Lachesis).
Laser mouse is Great for Casual Gamers & Graphic designers, Professional Architects. etc. as it offers very high DPI and works on more surfaces. But for Competitive Gaming, Laser sensor has some unresolved issues.
For example: They have a Higher Lift-Off distance, they skip a lot, they have issues with Tracking accurately. Especially if you are a low sensitivity gamer you ll have trouble with them if you move your arm too fast.
They are like Hummer on Formula One Track.

There are other issues also which i ll mention as you read.

The latest technology is 3G IR which is even better than Optical as it has very high precision tracking & doesn't compromise of Lift-Off distance much.

Then there are Wireless mouse. They have Sensors like others but they are Wireless. Which means u have to plug-in a receiver.

Issue with Wireless: Waves travel faster in Solids than in Air. So Wireless Mouse will always have a Slower Response Rate. However, with technological improvements this difference is minimize by increasing the Frequency at which they send information. For Example: Logitech G7. This mouse is Wireless but its also the First Wireless Gaming mouse. It has Max. 2000 DPI and a Laser Sensor
Issue with Best Wireless Gaming mice?
Well, it has maximum data rate of 500 reports/second which is HALF of Latest Wired Gaming Mice.

Logitech G7: To Buy or Not to Buy? You Decide!





There are few terms you need to understand when chosing a Gaming mouse.

Perfect Control
When you move your mouse it may result in turning your viewpoint in an FPS game, moving the cursor in an RTS game, or something else like rotating a tank turret. In each case the importance of using a mouse is the proportionate response. If you move the mouse slowly you expect to turn slowly or the cursor to scroll slowly. If you move quickly you want to be turning faster or the cursor to move quickly across the screen. If someone creeps up behind you in a game you want to be able to make a wild flick of the mouse to face your opponent quickly and return fire. The ideal mouse response is a linear one, where moving the mouse twice as fast results in a response of "twice as much". I define Perfect Control as the top speed up to which the mouse performs exactly as it should.

Malfunction Speed
Another important factor in choosing a mouse is the fastest speed you can move before it gives up and decides to fire the next rocket at your feet. I call this the Malfunction Speed, where the mouse loses control and effectively stops working. When you flick your mouse beyond the Malfunction Speed, anything can happen. You may either end up looking in any random direction or just find you haven't turned around at all. All optical and laser mice must have a Malfunction Speed, so we want it to be as high as possible so you don't notice it.

Dots-per-inch (DPI)
With a printer, the DPI (dots per inch) tells you how well the printer can translate information from the computer onto paper. For a mouse, the DPI value tells you how well the mouse can translate your hand movements to the computer. It would seem that a higher DPI would theoretically mean a better mouse? Before you run out to buy the highest DPI mouse we should think carefully about how much DPI is actually useful on a computer that spends most of its time displaying images made up of pixels.(Referenced)

High Sens: 360 degrees in 0.1 m (4"), roughly 1000 DPI needed

Medium Sens: 360 degrees in 0.25 m (10"), roughly 400 DPI needed

Low Sens: 360 degrees in 0.50 m (20"), roughly 200 DPI


But you have to realize that only DPI is not enough. DPI doesnt even give an estimate which mouse is better for you.

Laser mouse often have much higher DPI but they have lower Perfect control & Malfunction speed.
This has been proven in worlds first Mouse Benchmarking 2007 in the ESREALITY article which I ll post as a link. It’s a MUST READ for all Gaming enthusiasts.

Now, that you know that Optical & IR mouse are best for Gaming.
Lets Talk about different Design & which is better for you.

1.Claw Grip Design: This type of design is for players who like to control their mouse with only two fingers. Forefinger & Middle finger. Thus your palm forms a Claw-like Shape when you are using this type of mouse. This design offers a very precise movement & accurate aiming for Gamers.
Example: Razer Krait, Razer Copperhead & Razer Diamondback.

NOTE that if you have a Large Palm like me, you ll find it quite uncoomfortable to play with a Claw Shaped mouse.


2. Palm Grip Design: This is the most common design but is slightly enhanced & contoured for Gaming mice.
For controlling this mouse you place your entire palm on it. Hence its called Palm Design. It is doesnt have a very Precise movement but it is very comfortable for long gaming sessions. I prefer this design as I have large palms.
Example: All Logitech Mice - MX518, MX510, G5, G7, G9, Razer Deathadder, Razer Lachesis.





Q. Currently, which is the best gaming mouse in the world?
If you ask me that I ll NOT give a specific name as each mouse differs & is built for different types of Gamers.I ll mention some popular mice which shine above the others.

>MX518: This is the most popular & perhaps the oldest Gaming mouse. Great for Counterstrike players on a budget. It has On-the-fly DPI adjustment settings (400, 800 & 1600) which let you adjust DPI of the mouse while Gaming. It is easily available in the market & is preferred mainly by Counterstrike 1.6 players. 1600 DPI, & Palm Design. Although there are some issues like Slippery surface (when your palms are sweating), Lack of on-board memory for storing Profile which is crucial in competitions as you don't carry the Driver CD everywhere. It's price is much lower now & it still offers a Gaming Grade performance.
A Must-Buy for Emerging Gamers on a Budget.

Update: There is a newer version of MX518 recently noticed in the market which is 1800 DPI and revamped looks. Its a good buy for MX518 lovers.

And updated Firmware (Vista support) can be downloaded from logitech website.


Bottomline: Its one of the most popular Gaming-grade mouse which oozes Performance. one of the top 3 rankers in the Mouse Benchmarking 2007. For Competitive & Professional Gamers. Casual Gamers might find the Grip slippery after 45mins to 1hr. One of the best Performance-to-price Ratios.


MX518 (comes in 2 versions: 1600 DPI & 1800 DPI):




>Microsoft Intelli 3.0: This is an optical mouse, palm design. This is one is a performance mouse & offers a 9000 frames per second of tracking, but has a low Perfect control. The top speed is 1.92 m/s which is easily reached by gamers. Other than that its not very expensive so its great when cash is low.

Bottomline: For Most Gamers including Competitive gamers. But not Professional Gamers.


MS Intelli 3.0:



> Microsoft SideWinder: This is a very popular Mouse among Non- Professional gaming enthusiasts. The design is very detailed. The buttons for Various on-the-fly adjusment are big & perfectly placed. However, this mouse is expensive & doesn't offer good Performance for Price. But is a great buy if you game at home.
Bottomline: For Rich gamers who like Gaming but aren't into Professional gaming, this is the Lambhorgini Gallardo of Gaming mice. This will also make your desk look good.
Microsoft Sidewinder:




>Logitech G5: This is in the Flagship series of logitech, marketed as a High End Gaming mouse. currently, it's price has also fallen by now & u can buy it for much lower price, it has a great design Palm grip design. Its a laser mouse (Yes, Laser mice Skip much easily compared to Optical mice), but Laser sensor works on more surfaces and that is one advantage if u play while on the go, has Adjustable weight cartridge, (sounds cool right?) for perfect handling, 2000 DPI which is high.Top of the line but since its Laser hence professional gamers dont use it & hence logitech hardly sponsors any gamers. I would recommend this mouse if you want to play games like Crysis, Bioshock etc.
I would also recommend this to all who believe in one-time investment. This mouse has excellent build quality.
Bottomline: For most of the gamers: Casual, serious, addictive gamers. Who also like to Own their friends!



Logitech G5:


Adjustable Weight Cartridge:



>Razer DeathAdder: This is currently the Top Ranked gaming mouse in the world. It has been benchmarked THE BEST. See This. It has a phenomenal Tracking speed which a gamer will never reach of 2.92 m/s. It has a 3G IR sensor which is the Latest in technology, although be careful, looking at IR sensor can damage your eyes., but it works on all surfaces hence it is 'nearly' similar to laser sensor. It has 1800DPI which is more than enough for 19" - 21" or resolutions of 1280X1024 to widescreen of 1280X768. But since its the top performer & latest its also very expensive. So go for this if you got the cash & passion for competitive gaming. I wouldn't recommend this for casual gamers as such a high Perfect Control is never needed. You would rather go for G5 if you don't play CS or CSS.
This mouse is best for CS Mods, CS Source, Call of Duty 4 modern warfare etc. It has a sweat dissipating rubberized skin. So you can play long hours comfortably. I am using this currently.

It DOES have a big problem. It has no On-the-fly DPI adjustment even after being priced so high.

Bottomline: For Professional or Competitive gamers who demand the Best. Schumacher's Ferrari F1 of Gaming mice.

Razer Deathadder:






Deathadder Command & Conquer Edition (only in South-east Asia region):





>Razer Lachesis : This is the latest mouse from Razer.This has an ultra high 4000 DPI. This has been marketed as a Gaming mouse but its more for Professional designers & It has a very good design. Infact the best design since its a hybrid of Claw + Palm Grip. Its also expensive as its the latest. One of my friend is using it & is very happy with it. He also attracts Attention due to this mouse.

Bottomline: For Enthusiasts who love buying the latest & with best features. It is also a Great performer for Competitive Gamers.

Razer Mamba (Possibly the Worlds Fastest 'Wireless' Gaming Mouse by Razer):
For long time all gamers had become skeptic that there isnt going to be a Wireless mouse with response time as good as Wired mouse and zero lag issues.
finally razer claims they have released a mouse which can prove all skeptics wrong.

Announced at CES 2009, it is a wireless mouse which uses 2.4GHz RF and an integrated battery that offers an impressive 14 hours of non-stop gaming, or 72 hours of 'normal' gaming. It also features DPI and battery life indicators, (feature also found in MS Sidewinder) and a 3.5G Laser sensor which offers an unbelievable 5,600 DPI. This target wouldn't have been possible with Optical sensors which generally have a lower DPI.

This is a really well written document with good info. However, there are two issues I would like to comment on.

1. Razer bias - Not a major problem as they are a good company, but your document sways the reader in their direction. Selecting a mouse is still subjective at best and is and probably always will be different from person to person. I like how you added a benchmark from another site, but that also brings me to my second point.

2. FPS are not the only games on the PC - If your subject had included something about this document being for FPS gamers, then it would be fine. However, when you are talking about gaming mice you only touch on their use in FPS games. FPS are very popular, but even in professional gaming other genres are still prominent.

Other than these two issues that I had, the document is still informative and will be helpful to others.

I think a nice thing to add maybe a list of sites that do hardware reviews in relation to gaming (i.e. gotfrag). These sites will usually be your best bet for reviews on mice geared towards gamers.

 

Great write up. I'll make one comment though. I have the Logitech G7, wireless mouse. Beautiful mouse, I absolutely love it. You mentioned that it will still read movement when off the mouse pad, upto a height of 10cm? If you lift mine more than about 2mm it stops reading. I think its an excellent gaming mouse, but yes, I wouldn't classify myself a "hardcore" gamer.

 

I have a Logitech G9, a laser mouse, and it also doesn't exhibit this whole "track at 10 cm" thing. In fact, it stops tracking at about 1 cm.

 

This problem isnt specific to G series from logitech. the maximum lift - off distance varies from mouse to mouse.

 

Well there was the MX510 and MX500 before the 518... May be you can add in a bit on mouse feet too, Teflon pads and such. Also, alittle more on ''on-the-go'' sensitivity changes would be good too

Just some suggestions, more to come later

in the picture it looks like theres a usb connect platform thingy.... do you really need that or can u use the mouse just by itself if you already have blueray.

While I don't agree with all that you say nocturnal310, that was a great post that you must have put a consiterable ammount of time into. Defentally worthy of a rep.

 

I did notice that you didn't differentiate between wireless and wired mouses. I'm guessing this is because of a chance of lack of response at a critical moment for wireless.
I have had a Compaq Wireless Optical Rechargeable Mouse with Cradle for years. So long that mine looks quite different. In fact I bought 2 of them. 1 for home and 1 for traveling. It has served me well over the past 4/5 years. I am a gamer, but I play RPG's. I have never had a serious problem with it. Normally it's just the batteries going dead because I've been playing for 14 hours straight .
I have been looking for a "better" mouse and have yet to find one that meets my personal criteria.

Why no mention of the G9? I know it's expensive but I have to say I love this mouse. Superbly comfortable...lots of customization if desired...etc. I don't think ANY mouse is worth $99.99 (its retail price), but it's relatively easy to find it online for <$60...I got mine for $58 which I think is doable...that being said, I also think the G5 is a great mouse too!

 

i mentioned the mice which are a successful product, very popular.

EDIT:G9 is not yet that Popular... as its very expensive & its Laser. Laser has lift-off distance of more than 1 Cm.

It should be below 1 cm atleast.

And for Wireless mice.. i didnt talk about Wireless.. as They are not very successful with Professional Gamers.

there are sooo many mice in the market which are really good but are not popular in the Gaming community.
I have friends who participate in the tournament. & they either use MX518 or Razer.

Although i ll add few more details on advantages of Wireless such as G7

And i ll also mentioned G9 since you guys mentioned.

You're confusing it with the G7, which is wireless.

 

Nice post but i also don't agree with everything stated. I've used mx510 mice for years of playing cs very intensely and it's true that over a 5 year period i've wasted 3 of them. Recently i've purchased the G9 and it performs beautifully + loads of customisation options. I don't notice any negative effects by moving from optical to laser. And for the lifting part, when i lift my mouse more then 2mm from the mousemat it stops responding so that theory doesn't hold up as other people have also pointed out. Other then that great work on putting the time and effort into your post.

 

Good an informative post but I don't think that the lift-off distance with laser mice is that big an issue. I have a copperhead(laser) and it stops tracking when lifted any higher than 0.5cm. Good point about lasers being good for professional use though, invaluable in photoshop IMO.

 

I think the G9 is an excellent mouse, very comparable to my Deathadder. The only nitpick for me is comfort as the Razer mouse fits my hand much better than the Logitech. I also have not had any lift off issues as you stated... maybe it's all about luck? I've tried lifting it to different heights and it won't read anything until it's practically touching the surface of the mousepad.

 

Don't worry.. rite now my exams are going on.. ASAP i ll make some more changes to the article so its worthy of a STICKY.

I love my G9, i'm using it now.

Are you serious that some people move their mice 2.5 meters per second? My arm would fall out of its socket moving that fast.

 

not only that 2.5 m/s .. .an american top gamer (forgot his name) can perform 500-550 actions per minute... he goes to gym regularly. .does weight lifting.

A chinese gamer can do a max of 300 ..which is much less. coz they dont go to gym.


G9 is the flagship of logitech currently.. glad u like it.

 

I don't think gaming mice offer any advanatges over mice not branded as "gaming" models.

I have broken 6 mice ..sometimes cable snapped, sometimes button got damaged, one mouse's entire base got bruised.
And cheap laser mouse had negative acceleration

its then i decided to invest in a proper Gaming mouse.

 

I bought the Razer Lachesis Gaming Mouse, and although it was expensive - i have to say it is an awesome mouse. Playing an FPS like COD4 or CS:S i can change the sensitivity in game to when im running around with an assault rifle, then lower it with a quick click of a button to a lower sensitivity in sniper mode for a more accurate kill... then up it again just as quick for the machine gun play. Took a little while to get used to from my cheapo generic Dell Mouse, but it is defo a mouse i would recommend. Even though it is 4000 Dpi, you can change the settings in a program. I stops tracking about 5mm after lift-off, not 10cm!

 

I used the generic HP mouse that came with my computer for 4 years until it broke. I'm now using a logitech (sans SetPoint) MX610, which is a 2.4GHz wireless (wifi's on channel 6 - everyone else uses 1, 3, or 11) mouse touted for its MSN button. Works absolutely fine for everything, including Counter-Strike.

DPI changing seems kinda cheap - like that "triple threat" button on one mouse I heard of. My mouse has a liftoff of ~1mm.

 

I just got the Copperhead today and really like it!

but, nice guide for those of us who have no idea what kind of mouse we are looking for. My free mouse that came with my laptop is starting to wear out and probably has too low of a "malfunction speed" because its always going backwards when i move it too fast....

one question though, is there anything to be watching for to tell if a mouse is "claw grip" or "palm grip"? Personally, i would like the claw grip (ive gotten used to this small mouse)

Theres the Easter sale on at NCIX, so im looking to buy a mouse within the next few days, ive narrowed it down to these three:
G5, G9, MX518
Basically, im not a hardcore gamer, but im a person who doesnt like low quality items, so i would like a nice mouse to game with. I play CSS with a low sensitivity and i like the claw grip. Based on that description, which mouse would you recommend out of the three?

 

None of those offer Claw grip.. G5, MX518 & G9 are all Palm Grip mice.
G5 is the best out of them.


Claw grip mouse have Small Butt apparently & they have a Wide front. For Fingers.

For example: Razer Krait, Razer Copperhead, Razer Diamondback & Razer Lachesis.


Sorry to tell you but Logitech doesnt make Claw grip based mice currently.

There is an old Logitech G1 which is as closest to Claw grip as u can get... but its an older model. It has 800 DPI , teflon feet. Great for Casual gaming. but lacks the Cool factor of G5 & G9

now the G9 and the G5 are the same price, is the G5 still preferable over the G9? Im currently reading some online reviews to check it out, but the more input the better (and alot of these online reviews are bias)

I think im leaning towards the G9 now that they are the same price

edit: just bought the G9 since the price was no different between that and the G5. After reading around on the net, it seemed like the G9 with the precision grip was more suitable for "clawers," like me

 

It's kinda interesting... I have a hybrid palm-claw grip. I use 3 fingers to control my mouse (index for left, middle for wheel, ring for right), but I don't slap my whole palm on there as with the palm grip.

I tried it around with the G9, and my pink was a little uncomfortable at first. But I got used to it, and it is a pretty nice mouse. I might consider a G7 though (the G9 is my brother's, he gets mad when I use it. Dunno why he got it, all he plays is WoW).

 

hey for W0W he can do away with Microsoft Intelli 1.1. That game doesnt demand high DPI or Speed.

Convince him and get his G9 .. or i ll be writing more on G7 too. currently i am reading about Wireless products. I think wireless has a slow response time so it causes Latency.

What games do you play?

 

Mainly FPSes. CSS, HL2, Rainbow Six 3, Rainbow Six Vegas. SWAT4 sounds like an interesting game (it's only $20 too!).

Unfortunately, I don't think I can convince him. Hsi friend and I built him a decent gaming computer too. All he does is play WoW though. What a waste. I should try and convince him to give it to me!

I own a G7 and a G9 and seeing you're into fps games i advise you to go with the G9. The G7 is the best wireless mouse out there for shooters imo, it comes really close to being as good as a wired mouse. But unfortunately it can't compete because there still is a delay/lag which is typical for wireless mice when playing games that need fast reactions. The G9 is what you're looking for imo.

I am trying to decide on which mouse to buy. I play alot of racing games but am also a league player of DOD (day of defeat FPS) also play gta sa, bioshock etc in my sparetime. I also do some photoshop work. My last mouse was the MX1000 and I LOVED IT, the shape weight etc. I am currently using a microsoft wireless laser mouse 5000 and am VERY dissapointed.. I am a bit biased towards logitech but am having alot of trouble deciding which is best for me considering im into quite a bit.. any suggestions... also trying ot keep kind of low in the price seeing as i just bought a mouse and am buying another

 

The best mouse for your needs is MS Intelli 3.0

Its not expensive & its as good as Deathadder except the Perfect control & Design.

Sidewinder is better for Playing at home & better for Whole lot of reasons as it has Weight adjutment also.

Deathadder is like Ferrari F1. Top performer .

Sidewinder is Lambhorgini. Great performer

Most of the Logitech gaming mice have weights you can add. The grips that come with G9 are actually not that different in feel.

G9 is actually not a very large mouse. It's fairly flat so there isn't much palm support.

The G5 is more of a hump shape and is taller. Sidewinder is a big mouse.

hmmm I went to future shop today just to try the feel of every mouse ... I looked very stupid clicking away XD. Anyways I am leaning towards the G5. I find the G9 is far to small for my hand and the sidewinder.. the thumb buttons are so crammed together that i hit all 3 at once with the tip of my thumb... the deathadder well thats another story... while testing movement I kinda broke the cord in the first motion >.<. Would you say its quite easy to get used the the G9 or Sidewinder? and will I lose alot of performance with the G5. Also using a gaming mouse.. I have never used an actualy "gaming mouse" and am wondoring will it raise my alsmost non existant headshots? I notice with all mice they cant aim percisly (no its not me as a bad player).

You won't lose performance.. Familiarity with the mouse is the most important thing, not the specs of the mouse to an extent. I used the old microsoft optical blue for gaming for a few years and recently switched to the diamondback 3g, and I'm doing only a little better than before because I like the shape more. I can't use the generic gateway mouse that came with my dad's laptop though, which shows the importance of the tech stuff (it couldn't keep up with me). One thing I would think about is if you're a high or low sens player. If you're low (low sens, big sweeps) then I wouldn't go with the G5 since it's a laser mouse which can't cope as well. And yes, it's quite easy to get used to any mouse if it feels comfortable and suits your playing style.

Even a standard mouse would be fine for gaming and sniping in games. I did ok using a cheap free dell mouse. It's just that a G9 is much more fun to use. Gaming mice don't turn you into super players ...

 

Are you sure I found laser mice even more then ball mice to move about 5 mm when say sniping making it hard to even get close to even hit the guy. Ball mice HS used to be easy.
