I'm looking for a good printer/scanner/copier - currently I have an HP PSC 1110v that's about six years old and still going strong, but it's the family printer and I want something for my own personal work area. I really like HP printers but would be willing to try other brands (except Epson - I've heard really really bad things about ink replacement with them).

Looking to spend $50-75ish, could go a little bit higher if necessary. I mostly print text and music (I do some work with Finale), but I also occasionally print pictures and graphics - so a B/W laser printer won't work for me. I know it's probably a stretch, but if there's a sub-$100 multifunction printer that can do two-sided printing/copying it would be awesome, but not totally necessary. I just do some two-sided printing occasionally and it would make it easier.

I don't need wireless - I'd take it if I could get it for the price range, but it's not an absolute necessity (if it came down to wireless vs. two-sided printing I'd take the latter). And I'm looking for something that doesn't have exorbitant ink costs (our current HP is $20 for black and $25 for color, which I consider reasonable).

Do you guys have any suggestions for printers I should look at? Thanks! :)

I'm aware HPs work great. Hence mine still going strong after six years. :)

The two I'm looking at right now are the Officejet 6500 for $99.99, the Photosmart C5550 for $79.82, and the Officejet J4580 for $69.99 but I've seen it go on sale for lower.

The 6500 has two-sided printing, which is a big plus, even though it's stretching my budget a bit. It's only on sale this week though. There are a few other $50ish printers I'm looking at, but I'm just posting these since they're the top three right now. Thoughts? Anyone had any experiences with these printers?

I had 3 all in one hp printers, but all of them have paper jam the first day I brought. I return all 3 and got Brother MFC-490CW instead. 490cw has been working great with no paper jam ever since I brought it.
I would not suggest getting hp all in one..

The X4650 actually one of the "other" ones I've been looking at since it's only $49 at Sam's Club and is wifi, which is a huge plus. But it looks pretty barebones as a printer, and I'd rather have an HP over a Lexmark. It's still a possibility though.

fuyuki, really? I've heard (and experienced) nothing but good things with HP - I rarely ever have paper jams and when I do it's my own fault. I've heard a lot of bad things about Brother printers though.

yeah, I experience it. In one of the printer, the first paper jam was printing out the test page when you first set up the printer. Another hp got paper jam every 2 pages that was print. Another one started getting paper jam on the 4 or 5 day and every pages that I try to print was paper jam.

Never going to buy another hp again. wasted tons of gas just to return the printers.

edit: Brother 490cw is selling for 89.98 at staples
