    Can anyone compare

Altec Lansing XT1 - USB Portable Notebook Speakers

    with this

I like the idea of having portables when I am on the road.I am inclined toward the first because packaging... nice, compact, powered by usb port.

The second is as travel friendly as the first, uses batteru=ies... but for some crazy reason I suspect the sound is better.. I don't know enough about the meaning of the specs to make any inferences between the two..

Any body heard or heard about them?

    Simply put:

inMotion is more powerful (4W vs 1.5W) and looks to have a mini amplifier, while the XT1 seems to be powered by the output device.

inMotion looks to be the better product and better designed, so if price is ok with you, buy it.

So I just received the Altec Lansing in Motion IM4... and I have a mixed reaction. The sound is great but the set-up is a pain and not very functional. Since the speakers are attached to a small pad (presumably to set an MP3 player on it) and thus only 5" apart (appx), as one reviewer noted, it gives off a very monaural sound. Plus, where do you put it when you are watching a DVD? If you put it to the side it is totally weird sound and if you try to rest it on the keyboard it blocks the view. I wish they designed so the speakers detached. I still haven't figure out how to resolve the problem.

I heard a fair bit of crackling at first but when I went to another site that was reviewing same and a number of reviewers made the same complaint, somebody posted on those comments to turn down the MP3 player's volume. That reminded me that I had set my ASUS DVD player (which I was using) to "noisy background" (recommended for listen through laptop speakers. ) I remembered that though it made the laptop speakers more audible (louder volume), it was at the expense of sound distortion.

I set the ASUSDVD player back to both normal and quiet environment.. and with both settings the crackling went away completely. I wasn't sure which setting I liked best but I settled on normal.

I am wondering if the ALtec Lansing XT1 - USB Portable speakers would be better. Reviews complained of crackling when volume was raised at all but at least the speakers are separable and might create a more stereo effect. But I am sure the sound quality is no where near as good.

Anyway, I will probably keep the ones I have as the sound quality is pretty impressive... and they are extremely light weight and portable.
