I want to illuminate my gaming room with ambient lighting, like red behind the monitors and under the desk and stuff.

Does anyone know how one would go about doing this? All of the cathode and LED strips I've found have been all molex connectors. Would permanently jump starting a PSU be safe? Are there converters or something?

    Thank you.

(and no IKEA or Phillips overpriced garbage, please...)

Any computer or car light kit is using 12v DC so just get a AC --> DC adapter

Like this one: Pyramid PS2K AC to DC Adaptor PS2K

Better option than using a PC power supply I think.

They do make lots of stand alone cathodes that come with there own AC/DC adapter as well, I had several as a kid.

For large lighting projects you can get standard light mounts like used in an office or school and just use neon color bulbs instead of white ones.

Also a easy way to get a large area is to use a car ground effects kit.

Something like this, or a cfcl version.

Also for 12v DC here a standard adapter is not strong enough you can use a car battery charger or just simply use an actual car battery :D
