I recently purchased a Sager NP2096 and wanted to use one of the two monitors I used previously with my desktop as a secondary monitor for my new laptop. Dual monitors is wonderful and I wanted to continue using them. My issue is that the monitor I would prefer to use with my laptop has the white DVI adapter, I purchased what I had believed to be an appropriate adapter the packaging said it was a VGA to DVI adapter but it doesn't do the trick.

I recently did some research and saw that an actual converter may be needed.

So my question is what exactly do I buy and how much is it gonna cost me?

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

    Things to note:
    Video Card: GeForce 9600M GT
    Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 226BW

If the monitor's DVI input takes analog as well, then it should work. However, wouldn't it be easier to simply use the HDMI port? You'll get the full digital signal and the quality benefits.

At your mention of HDMI I took a look at the connections on my monitor, it has a separate analog connection that I'm now using. So thank you for the idea and sincerest apologies for my bout of idiocy.

No worries. :) However one thing is that if you get a HDMI to DVI adapter, you'll be able to enjoy an improved digital picture on your monitor. I'm not sure if it will make a huge difference, but just another method. :)
