So, I have the Logitech Anywhere MX and LOVE it... except for the click wheel. Because it is a toggle between hyper scroll and click scroll it does not function as a normal middle mouse button rendering it useless for some RTS games, and this will not do!
Things my new mouse should have:
- Mobile mouse size (not full size)
- Wireless
- Click wheel (not hyper scroll)
- Thumb button(s)
I have looked at the Orochi but the Blutooth micro-sleep state makes it useless to me. Anything else out there I might like?

Anywhere MX. I myself getting the performance MX. I haven't found anything better. The problems with orochi does makes it completely useless. There's also the new Cyborg R.A.T 7 and 9 thats worth mentioning. But I stick with the MX.

Those RAT mice are maybe a little too flashy gamer for my tastes and I don't think it comes in a notebook (mobile) size. -
The Orochi's Bluetooth sleep isn't really an issue if you don't leave the mouse completely still for 10 seconds at a time, which presumably you're not going to be doing in the middle of a game. And if it gets to you that much, you can plug in the handy 3-foot cable.
You may want to look into the Logitech G7. It's not a laptop mouse, but it's smaller than a lot of full-blown desktop mice. I'd call it mid-sized. -

Again, to fix my V470, I had to disable the Power Saving feature of my bluetooth enumerator in WINDOWS. It's the stock Windows Bluetooth driver that caused my issue. If my mouse goes to sleep, it wakes up now in less than one second. For all intents and purposes, I have zero lag time. It may drain the battery a bit more, but I recently invested into rechargeable batteries, so...

Sadly enough, there is no decent mouse out there. The MX is just my preference, and not for competitive gamers. We are pretty much stuck unless you want to use wired mouse all the time. -
I don't know what's with the middle button, you can just use the logitech setpoint software and change the middle wheel button function from changing precision to a middle mouse button, unless you are refering to the small button under the wheel?
-
In my experience Orochi sleep timeout is less than 10 seconds.
I think it's about 5 seconds or less, which is annoying for everyday use since we often type on keyboard for more than 5 seconds,,
and when we get back to the mouse.. zzz freeze.
And in my experience it's the mouse not the windows bluetooth.
because MS Bluetooth 5000 has good sleep timeout > 5 minutes.
only Orochi "smart enough" to make it 5 seconds
so if you're planning to use Orochi wirelessly, I say No No.
but if you're planning to use it with cord, I say "get a DeathAdder or Steelseries!LOL

Can you show me where you are changing yours? Maybe I just missed it.
-
in AnywhereMX the middle button is dedicated to switch normal scroll > hyperfast scroll.
The options are change the left-right scroll / document flip button / thumb button to middle click .. -
Oh... because performance MX has a small button underneath the wheel especially to change between hyper and precision scrolling, therefore the wheel click can be configured to middle button.

How about the Marathon M705? It is between the Anywhere and PerformanceMX in size and the wheel is a button. It does have hyperscroll, but there is a separate button to swap the modes.

I'm also looking for a new mobile mouse. I just got the anywhere mx and I'm using it now: I hate it.
The left click button is sticky/heavy making fast clicks impossible. Also the weight of this beast is just too much for a supposedly portable laptop mouse.
The good news is that it does work on any surface.
I was about to purchase the ms mobile mouse 4000, but then i read about all the dongle shortcircuit problems. Are there any decent, light, simple mice out there? -

Hm, I actually love my Anywhere MX sans the middle mouse button issue. However I have found a work around.
Using setpoint I configured the Application Button (located below the scroll wheel) to work like a middle mouse button. Not perfect but effective enough for me for now.

Is it possible I have a defective model? I definitely notice a significant difference in the click ability between the left and right buttons. The right button has a much faster click, almost like the left button was pushed in. If I were left handed, the mouse would feel fine.
Can anyone with the anywhere mx tell me if they notice a difference in the looseness of the right and left clicks? -
I think almost all mouse have designed the left click to be harder to click than the right click, the razer diamondback I had has the same design as well, after it spoilt, I opened up the mouse and discovered that the "click knob" of the left click is built more infront compared to the right click.

And about the weight, you can try to put only 1 battery.
That is the perfect weight for me
