sorry to bring this up again, been looking at the multiple threads regarding the best notebook cooling around couldnt really find what I was after.
Anyway, i had a laptop given me at xmas, after 2 months it screwed up. was a hp compaq V6000 or v7000 I forget. Anyway it wasnt a cheap laptop and it went wrong after 2 months.
I think this was due to me overheating it with games. They were going to repair the thing, they had it for about 4 weeks, so I went in kicked up a fuss they refunded me the money and told me to go pick a new one.
anyway after explaining what I use the Laptop for, gaming, multimedia design programs etc, they put forward the VAIO VGN-FE41M best thing they had in stock. They told me I wouldnt have any problems with gaming etc.
anyway i've had this one 1-2 weeks and last night for the first time, that dreaded blue screen popped up again and it restarted. Now i figure i'm overheating the damn thing again.
I'm a bit of a hardcore user so use it for hours on end. I use it on a flat surface etc never on my lap anymore.
intel core 2 duo
2gb ddr2
120gb
geforce 7400
seems to run everything fine but like i said for the first time last night it appeared to overheat. Now i dont want the same thing to happen to this laptop and i figure i need some extra cooling to keep up with my demands.
now i was reading other threads and found there a need to find out which way the latop cools i.e. blowing it out the back etc and finding the best cooling to fit that spec.
may seem really stupid but i cant work out what my laptops doing. cant really hear any fans and cant work out which way things are blowing.
has anyone have experince with the VAIO or the FE41m Model and can tell me the best thing to use?
thanks for your help.

Did you read this guide?
You can monitor your CPU, GPU and HDD temperatures. That way you'll know for sure if it is a heat problem and you'll also know when your computer is getting too hot.
That's the first thing I'd do if I were you. I'd monitor my temperatures to see if it's really the problem.
I don't know much about the VAIO. But does it have a key to toggle the fan on max power? My Sager does (FN+F2). I toggle it on when I play games to cool my laptop as much as possible. -
Hmm...some advice here...
Use it in a cool room (preferably an airconditioned room). Or have your fan blow the laptop. And of course with plenty of fresh air. Since you use it on a flat surface, you can consider perodically moving it around your desk to dissipate the heat ( i do that last time). But i found it troublesome so i got myself a decent notebook cooler. Some generic branded one with blue lights made out of acrylic and has two fans. Cools pretty well.
From the laptop side you can check the bios to see if there's any option to turn on the fan. Good lucK! -
ok thanks guys, i'll try monitoring the heat for interest sake, i'm pretty sure its over heating for a start when i touched the underside last night it was hot. I have to bare in mind it been running for 6 odd hours, so compared to the last its staying rather cool.
Also the fan is on, I think, just makes a whisper.
i'm pretty sure i just need some additional cooling, this is the 2nd laptop in 3 months thats had the issue, so it must be me stressing the laptop with games etc rather then the laptop itself. whats considered to be the best laptop cooler? or better yet, a cooler branded for the VAIO notebooks? -
It's also a good idea to clean out your fan once and awhile to keep them running well. Since your laptop is new you don't need to do that now but keep it in mind.
Since you do use your notebook for hours without a break your best bet would be a laptop cooler.
Read the Guide to Cooling Down Your Notebook Computer. It covers laptop coolers. -
ok canned air i'll be sure to do that every few weeks, but that topic has me more confused.
I dont really want to under volt it. Compond seems like more effort then I care to use. Leaves me with the options of notebook cooler.
Targus Chillmat didnt look very impressive from his results and the Spire Pacific Breeze although doing its job was descibed as being
is there anything on the market that does its job well without the sound? Cost doesnt really bother me provided it does its job?
When you spend £1100 on a notebook i'm shocked that company's like Sony dont provide accessories for cooling there laptops when its clealy a wide spread problem. Or better yet build the things to cool propply.
Are there any websites that specialise in this sort of thing? I cant find any. -
anyone used a lapcool 4?

looks rather good, raises the laptop for flow, and has a wide spread fan for base of laptop? -
i'm using the zalman laptop cooler with my G1 and couldn't be happier
