brands and types? Tried the back of the neck style from radio shack but it was not comfortable. Hurt the earlobes and not good for leaning back on the chair.

Well depending on what you want exactly (headset or headphones?)
This is a great headset choice as it has the best sound of any headset I've ever heard.

Another good choice is the plantronics Audio 90. I've had a pair for 2.5 years and they've treated me well the whole time.

If you're just looking for headphones you'll probably have to be more specific as to what budget your looking at because they go from 2-500+ depending on what you want.

How much cash do you want to put into them??? My cuz got a SWEET pair of Sennheiser's But they were like $180... And I think that unless you get some headphones that completely cover your ear, they will always hurt your earlobe after long periods of use...

    Grado Labs SR-125
    http://www.gradolabs.com/product_pages/sr125.htm
I've had these for 10 years, and I still have not found another that compares in quality. Quite comfortable on the ears as well. Not sure where you can buy them these days. The Grado Labs website doesn't seem to direct you towards any dealers, but if you can track a pair of the SR-125's down... they are definitely worth every penny (all 15,000 of 'em).

I am looking for budget types, under 50, more for DVDs than music. How are the earbud type, they are all over the place and portable? Is Koss a good brand? The neck type hang on and around the ears, I will cross that style off.

My choice is usually Sennheiser. They make great headphones. The PX100's have excellent sound... Earbuds give me headaches, and hurt my ears.

I second the Sony 51s as good for mp3 players on the move, but when you're at home a closed headset with a larger driver sounds better.

I have a set of HD 202s from Sennheiser that I got from Newegg for 20 bucks! They sound unbelievable! Granted...I'm not an audiophile, but I do have the Sony's and Sennheiser's and they kick the snot out of the crap people are toting around campus here.

    Good luck!

My pick is anything in the Shure line, I use the e3c and love them. Great noise cancellation,

A Shure fan here too, e3c's as well :)

But ear-canal headphones may not be the ones you want, I'd also suggest the Grado or Sennheiser, though neither of the ones mentioned are budget friendly at all :p

I'm a Shure fan as well. I got a set of E2s for about $70, and they sound incredible.

Only thing about the Sony earphones is that they tend to peel really easily. The material used on them is kinda rubbier and I've had so far about 4 pairs of them.

Luckily for me Sony's warranty here in Canada allows me to replace them whenever they peel or mess up for a year.

Hopefully my final pair will last me for a longer period of time.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I have had grados: Best sound (for audiophiles). Not very comfortable / stylish.

Now I have: Icemat Audio Siberia's. Fair sound, great looks extremely comfortable.

I'd go for seinheisser if your looking for music
Or Icemat for gaming / music

I also agree about the Grado's...if your on a really tight budget just save another couple weeks and get the Grado SR-60's...you wont be sorry. It was Stereophile's budget component of the year a while back.
