Any one here use a laptop stand?

I picked one up yesterday from www.tigerdirect.ca made by this company called www.laptopdesk.net

I like it, it lifts up the laptop to five different angles (I use the second from the top) allows better airflow around the bottom of the unit and makes typing a lot easier. It's also fairly portable, I can fold it up and put it in my laptop knapsack when I'm carrying the laptop around.

I had bought another one earlier on ebay but that one didn't work very well with my Acer, it had a lip at the frt to hold the laptop and that basically blocked all my buttons and jacks at the frt. I sold it to someone at work who uses an Asus laptop and it works like a charm on her's. Her laptop has no buttons at the frt.

The stand that I got has no lip to hold the laptop at the frt. but it has rubber pads at the bottom to hold the laptop securely. When I need to walk away from the laptop I lower the stand to make sure the laptop doesn't go for a slide down the stand (it doesn't move but I don't want to chance it).

Using mobilemeter as a gauge my cpu temps before using the stand was around 56'C now using the stand it's down to around 48'C so it definitely helps to keep the laptop running cool. Excellent investment for your laptop and I recommend getting one.

hey Tony, thanks for the recommendation and insight on this stand. Personally I don't use one, but I will say that most people don't realize how ergonomically bad some laptops can be for your wrists. There are accessories out there such as wrist pads and what not, but none of them can overcome the fact that it's better to have a slightly tilted keyboard rather than flat which is of course what every laptop keyboard is like.

the only problem with these stands is, as you allude too, they can be a pain to carry around. Now, if this company has overcome that issue then this is well worth a look.

I use a Podium CoolPad for general notebook tasks. It lifts up the back of my rig some 1 1/2". It can swivel 360 degrees, which is great when at work during meetings.

For gaming, I use a LapCool2. It has 2 powered fans, which helps keep the GPU temps down.

Anything which increases airflow of your rig is a good idea. You made a good investment.

It probably could, they have a picture there that shows the stand with what looks like a bowling ball or a large round fruit and it supports it no problem. Best thing to do is find out a place that sells it take your laptop with you to the place and try it out. If it works for you then get one.

I tried it out at a tigerdirect outlet place here in Toronto with my laptop there before buying it and it worked well for me. Good luck!!!

What About the Stands From HP? I know their a lot less mobile but does anyone have one, if so how is it?

 

Here is what I use. It is very comfortable with the bean filled leather cushion and wooden table. It keeps my lap comfortable and it has a classic look.

I bought one named "UltraLite" from Lapworks. Feels good. And I didn't see any chance the laptop would slide down from it, since the rub bites the laptop pretty tight.
