I'm looking for a 3.5 inch with a metal enclosure of some kind. USB2.0 of course, but esata would be friggen sweet. 1tb-1.5tb is what I'm looking for. Somewhere in the 120 range would be perfect.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

What about getting your own enclosure like
Newegg.com - Rosewill RX-358-S SLV (Silver) 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA Ext. Enclosure w/Int.80mm fan
    $35
Then you can pickup a 1tb for around $60
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARS 1TB 5400 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
    Coupon code EMCYTYP39

I have that HDD and it does great. 20-26mb/sec usb and 70s using esata.

I know those reviews don't look that great (they were not like that when I ordered), but you should be able to get a 1tb for $60-70 and 1.5 for around 90.

I have that same Rosewill external enclosure but in black. Have been using it for about a year or so and it's been good for the most part. While the enclosure itself is sleek and sturdy, the things I don't like about it is the blue status light which can't be toggled off and how the fan gradually gets louder after a few months of use (but not to the point where it's annoying).

I also have that same one but in black as well; if the light becomes annoying, you can actually pull the wires from the SATA-USB/eSATA bridge and shut the lights off. As for the fan, not even oiling it makes it quiet for longer than a month before it goes back to the rattling sound it makes. I can say it works with 1.5TB drives as well.

Another thing; It does not have feet. Unless you sit it on a soft surface, it will vibrate (unless you get some sort of stick on feet).

I have three portable external hard drives all by Western Digital and all USB-powered: two 500GB My Passports and one 1TB Elements. All have worked reliably and the oldest is 4 years old, the newest is 3 months old. I bought them after reading the many positive feedback responses on Amazon. I am very happy with them and will buy another Passport or Elements if I need additional storage space.

Update 8-1-2010 11:26PM PST: I apologize, I did not read Meever's post completely before posting, and now realize the WD drives are not what Meever was/is looking for. I tried to delete my post, but could not locate the functions to do so. I apologize for posting irrelevant information. Thanks.
