I have a Logitech USB headset (model number A-00008) that stopped working yesterday. When I plugged it into my laptop, Vista says that it does not recognize the device. I thought it was a driver issue, so I rebooted in Linux which complained that there is something wrong with a USB device and thereafter acted as if it wasn't there. It had previously worked just fine on both Linux and Windows.

As a last resort, I tried it with a friend's laptop and it wouldn't work with that either, so I'm pretty sure it's the hardware. Does anyone know what part of these things can break and how one would fix it? I'm pretty sure the wiring is physically intact and there is nothing wrong with it that a superficial look can reveal, but it doesn't want to work.

i don't think there is. if it's still under warranty you should be able to get a replacement

Usually a break in the cable that you may not be able to see, but either way - as ^ said it will be covered under warranty. If not, get another one.

Thanks, I bought a new one. The old one is probably still under warranty, but I bought it in the US (and thus all of the paperwork that came with it is in the US) and I'm now in France for a few months so that doesn't really help me. I'll see if I can get them to give me a new one when I get back and if not I'll take it apart and see if I can spot a loose wire or something of the sort.

Good solution of the problem, or if you reach USA when the warranty can no longer be claimed just give it a try your self by reading the details in the URL posted above by me.
