Some people want to have one hand on the keyboard and one on the trackpad. I'm sorry to left-handed users, but the trackpad should at least be centered on the chassis itself. Instead, it ends up skewed toward the left with increasing laptop size.

I realize this inconveniences left-handed users, so I'm probably making fuss over nothing. Still, I'm wondering if in the future trackpads will somehow be adjustable so that both types of users can adjust it accordingly.

yes, everyone should follow apple's example and center the trackpad on the chassis

On most laptops, if it was centered on the chassis it would be undeneath your right palm when you type something using both hands at the same time. I guess it wouldn't bother much for the Joe Average who types with "9 hunts, 1 pokes" style... :D

How many models of those have numpad? :)

Every laptop i've seen that had the trackpad centered with the chassis didn't have a numpad and it just happens that the trackpad is also centered with the space bar on those notebooks.

I've actually trained myself to use my left hand when using a mouse, unless I need to do precise click-drag type operations.

The trackpad actually should be centered under the spacebar, so there's the least chance your palms will touch its surface (and also to facilitate use of the TrackPoint, see Thinkpads). The main issue is the NumPad (which I personally dislike on laptops smaller than 17") pushing the rest of the keyboard off-center.

I prefer it centered under the keyboard, it's less likely to be hit by my palm. I like resting my right forearm on the chassis while i type.

I too absolutely hate that the trackpad is always skewed to the left side of the chassis these days. So annoying and makes it less comfortable to use the trackpad with my right hand.

Then what is the point of the palm/wrist rest?

to use it if its convenient?

....you talk about it like they extend the chassis solely to provide comfort..they kinda need that room for internals anyways.

No thanks, I'll just keep the touchpad centered under the space bar and keep my palms on the wrist rest. It's comfortable.

It's better for your hands to elevate them rather than rest them on the notebook anyways, right?

I never have a problem rubbing against the trackpad when I type. I usually have my elbows on the desk so that my wrists are elevated.

    you know....you have a good point there :( ;)

thats what I've heard in the past, but never been too sure.

but ya, i sincerely doubt 2mm will hurt you in any case*.

*i have a feeling some people don't realize how short a distance 2mm is....
