I wonder if anyone here who own a dell jukebox/mp3 player, whether it be 5gb, 15gb, or 20gb could give some feedback regarding the product. The quality, durability, overall price, or a brief comparison to others big name such as ipod, iriver...etc. Thanx in advance.

The iPod is petter than the dell, and its even petter on PCs now that HP has started manufacturing them, the Dell is the ipod with switched around controls.
But whatever you do, DO NOT GET AN ARCHOS!!!!!!
I got an AV340 for my Birthday (13th) and when the power thing in the unit thAT you plugged the power adapter into was fried, so i sent it in ONE MONTH AGO. No word seince!!!

i bought the dell 15 gig one while it was on sale fer 100$ [s&h not counted] or somewhere around there. Its a great deal... its like 3 times cheaper than the ipod.. works fine, great data storage device. I use it to carry a ton of anime that i can just plug into my laptop and watch whenever i want instead of carrying around dvds or whatever. a portable hard drive is always good. the bad thing is that you must install the driver onto whatever computer u wish to transfer data... but the install is quick and easy.
i guess its bad if you have a file that u want to give to your friend, but what i do [this is stupid], is i Zip the install file, then put it on my other [very small] mp3 player which has a usb input so i can plug that into a friends computer, install software, then i can transfer files to the dell jukebox. what sucks is that i bought that mp3 player about a week befor ei got the dell for like 70 US dollars... the dell was 30$ more and it gives at least 100 times more songs.
the song quality is really nice, it has adjustable equlizer settings so u can change em to whatever u want. i heard the way the playlists on the ipod are orderd can be frustrating, but on the dell, al the songs can be arranged by album, artist, title, etc, u can make ure own playlist very quickly, give them names, and theres a search option that makes finding stuff really easily. the dell headphones are surpisingly durable... they arent cheap-cheap 2$ headphones.
ive run into only 1 problem with it so far. the dell wud crash on the same song over and over, and i had to use the reset pinhole to reset it, but i figured the song was corrupt and just deletd it. no more porblems after that. o yah, if u reset, the songs dont get deleted. i dont really know abuot the ipod, but the dell has all the buttons that u cud possibly need, like a home key, back key, record key and this little scroll wheel, which is REALLY nice. my old mp3 player had to go thru like 4 menu options to actually record anything. regarding the voice quality of recording, i stuck it inside my backpack during class and it records fine.
The little black pouch they give with it is great... its fuzzy on the inside, and durable on the outside. it is designed to let you push the buttons even if its inside the sleeve, so you can lock the system, turn it on/off, pause, etc, all without taking off the sleeve as to avoid damage.
i have never had the battery die on me... ever... since this has a battery life of around 12 hours, which at the dell website says its 3times longer than an ipod, which im not sure of. you can just play it all day, and let it charge during the night, and it will be fine. i dont know what happens if the battery wears out or something in say.. 5 years... but i guess most mp3 players dont last that long anyway.
on a final note, i chose this because i dont really like apple products, no matter how stable they seem, [ive crashed a mac dozens of times, they arent that stable you know!] and primarily because it cost 100 bux.
you can also search dj15 or dj20 on yahoo and theres a website that offers a comparison between ipod and dell.
quality:
everything easy to use. main problems include software must be installed to use data transfer [but music transfer can be used without the software], and that one song that crashed the jukebox [out of the 2000 songs i have... thats like .05% crash rate]. this can all be fixed with some firmware upgs... which dell really needs to put out.
durability:
i think i dropped it on a hard tile floor once, since i forgot i was listening to it and stood up... sigh... no damage tho. i say its very hardy, especially with the fuzzy sleeve.
price:
its 3 times cheaper than an ipod... go for it!
comparison:
i agree that archos sucks. theres no support, big no no. at least with a dell or an ipod u know u wont get screwed over.
i dun know about ipods, but its a total matter of opinion which is better. Unless you like the flsahy colors the ipod brings, since the dell is white/blue accents and blue background screen [still nice, but i say it looks like a handheld poker video game than an mp3 player]. of course, the value is what matters. why not get a dell jukebox for yourself and a friend instead of 1 ipod?
an on a last note: dont get the acessories. big no no.

Thanx a lot z3phrn for the feedbacks. I am planning to get either this or one of the other mp3 player brand, most likely not ipod though cuz they are quite expensive. So from your review it seem pretty durable and the quality is pretty good. I wonder if you know any good deal on the dell mp3 player right now since I don't think their site have any major deal yet regarding the mp3 player. Also, I think they just took the 15gb model out and replace it with one of their mini one that's 5gb and of course the old 20gb is still there. Thanx again for the feedback.

Oh yah, forgive the massive spelling errors.

the prices when i bought it:
the 15gig model was 179 with 70 coupon, then another 10-20 off of shipping.
the 20 gig model was 279 i believe, with 100 rebate and 10-20$ off shipping.
the 20 gig model was 70$ more for 5 gigs, so i didnt go for it
it was about a month ago.. and it was the only promotion ive seen concerning the jukebox that sounded decent. if you say they dont have any more 15 gig models, then that means the deal they had a month ago was just to clear out the 15 gig model/old 20 gig inventories possibly. if they have 2 new models out right now, its prolly assumbale that they wont have a giant coupon that will cut the price in half, but you can still get 10-15% off anything coupons for dell sometimes.
with a 15% coupon, and free shipping [they give it to you at the site], it would be around half the price of a normal/mini ipod.

has anyone had an issue with the players lights staying on and the player not turning fully on...only the lights on?
