After seeing more and more info on the G9, the more I dislike the way its built. It looks like its a gaming version of the VX Revolution, small, portable but lacks support. I do have a VX, its a fine mouse for using on the go but it just isn't a design for a gaming mouse on a desktop.
A desktop mouse should be bigger, more supportive to keep any friction from your hand reaching the the surface and disturbing your accuracy. The G5 (I also have this mouse) does a perfect job, it keeps the perfect distance to keep the lower parts of your hand (below your thumb) from your mousepad. The MX Revolution does a even better job with the part sticking underneath the mouse.
I know that it has adjustable grips that might help but I really doubt they can overcome the size of the mouse. If this mouse was modeled after the MX it would be the perfect mouse for gaming.
These are pretty much just my views but I just wanted to get this out about the new mouse. Give you guys some food for thought![]()

well knowing the price would be helpful
i won't get it simply because i don't like the look of it. -

I believe it's somewhere around 100 USD.
-
100USD isn't that bad, that's how much the G5 started.
-
but how much better is it compared to the g5. if it is 100USD, that means it will be about $150 in australia at least. thats a bloody rip off.

i don't think in this de-sensitize gaming market, price would meant much. if it is really really good i would by it. i have the MX510 and the G5 and i think that they are the best form for mousing, they are comfortable and agile, the perfect size for my hand.
as for me, i wouldn't think of gettig the G9 simply because i don't need a new mouse right now, even if i need to buy a new mouse right now, i wouldn't spend it on that one. i spend it on the G5 again. the G9 doesn't looks right and also, i think right now the G5 is better buy. more comfortable and better value. and the DPI sensitivity is more than enough for use even on my 1920x1200 screen. -
its the ugliest thing since my sister was bornthe g5/mx518 is much sleeker and i prefer curves over straight lines anyday. i have an mx518 and a diamondback and am loving both. even if it was so much more comfortable and better looking, i wouldn't buy it because of the price. i'm not a super- duper hard core extreme gamer, but i like a good mouse and am willing to pay for it if i think it worth it.
-
I agree with you, Jeff. I do prefer the look of the older mouses.
-
mouses? or mice
-
the G9 might be the first major stuff up i know logitech makes. when i first saw the "spy" shot picture on engadget.com i almost didn't believe that it is a complete logitech mouse. i thought they glued something on the back to hide a new revolutionary form design. i was wrong. along with the engadget author who've guessed that the picture is a fake.

there are so many other gaming mice that are just as good and cheaper. I dont really see this selling much unless the drop it to $80 at least. hardcore gamers might go for it but the average gamer will just get a cheaper mouse that is almost as good and certainly better looking
-
i've been using the mx510 for like three (maybe a little more) years...still going strong, spent 60 bucks on it back then. As far as i'm concerned, this 100 dollar mouse is definitely not worth the price. If I upgrade I'll probably get the G5 or try out the new razer lachesis, 79.99 is the anticipated price on that one, still expensive but much more reasonable imo.
-
79.99? thought it was more at the razer site. i just bought a deathadder 2 months back so a new razer mouse is bad for me but its a nice lookin mouse
-
yea...i looked up a review and that's what they said it would be....could be wrong.

I probably should of named the thread something like the G9 is to small.
Anyways, Logitech is shooting themselves in the foot with the size of the mouse, a little mouse like this isn't worth 50+ dollars. Sure it has a really great amount of sensitivity but the size isn't gaming grade.
I also agree that its one ugly mouse, usually gamers get the more stylish mice but for some reason Logitech decided that style doesn't matter as long as it has high sensitivity. If they corded, changed the design of the MX and added a the same dpi engine as the G9's then they would have a great gaming mouse. -
apparently they thought that the gamers nowdays would want to use their finger to flick their mouse, because that way its more agile. but you do loose some degree of accuracy and extended time comfort. but i don't know since i haven't try yet.
who knows.. but one thing i know is the mx510 and/or g5 mouse form is excellent! -

The "gaming" market is ridiculous. It's just a way to hype flashing, expensive products with negligible advantages in actual gaming.
-
-
My "Logitech MX610" works fine for gaming, I tried a G5 and the sandpaper grip and lack of two thumb buttons was just annoying.
-
-
i love the MX/VX scroll wheel on the G9
-
Wired mice, although they lack some sort of delay that wireless mice supposedly have, have cords that snag. My wireless mice has no perceivable delay and snaps out of sleep mode instantly.
-
The reason wired mice are better for gaming is the higher dpi and lack of batteries. Changing batteries while in the middle of gaming can be pretty annoying, you have to miss a round or even be killed.
As for cords being annoying, if you get something that can clip or hold your cord down you can loop it and you'll never need to tug on it again. -
800dpi is fine & I can change my batteries in a snap. I get plenty of time before they stop powering the mouse, and the mouse does not lag or get skippy when batteries are low. A battery change can be done in 5 seconds, and batteries last a good month.
-
admitedly i would really like to have a wireless mouse. but hate the inconvinience of changing the battery, and the little lag it have after its been sleeping/standby. -
It seems alright for my 1280x1024 17" 75Hz screen. I have the mouse speed set to the fifth notch from the left in Windows XP, generic Windows PS/2 mouse driver and no other settings have been changed.
-
i just saw the g9 in the local computer joint and i have to say, its not all that comfortable. its too chunky at the very back, and i have to hold my wrist up too high. no new mouse for me just yet.
Anyone else think the G9 isn't worth the price?
