Got to thinking and I really don't know how difficult it would be, but I know that fans aren't terribly expensive and an enclosure could be built out of anything from metal to wood to plexiglass. I wouldn't know where to start with wiring and powering the unit though. I've got a lot of free time lately and wouldn't mind messing around with this idea, although it may just be more effective to purchase one, hah.

I think if you search this forum you will find a good one made from wood.

I made my own, but too ugly to take a photo of.

I would suggest using 5v fans and take the power from a USB port.

    Yeah :D

Back in the day when I had the C90S, a unit that used a desktop cpu so it was known to be a hot machine I er.. made this one...

YouTube - Super Mega Cooling Pad v2005

BTW the unit ran cool, but I had a crashing issue and I was testing to see if it was heat related. It was not it was a bad stick of RAM if I recall correctly.

Wow, there's so many custom coolers posted on here. Vicious, not too sure what to make of yours, haha.

I think what I'm going to do is go to home depot one day, get some metal mesh, some wood, screws, order some big fans online, get a 12v wall plug, and go to town. I'm still not sure how far I want to elevate the laptop completely, or if I just want to angle it and make a triangle shaped cooler.

I actually do have plans to make one probably.

Right now I do not need one though and have better things to spend my money on.

I was going to use some plexi, and a heat gun and just bend it to shape and drill my fan holes custom to my laptop at the time and get a 12v DC wall adapter and wire it up via a standard DC jack at the back.

Ordered some wire mesh today from amazon, 2ft by 2ft for 1.60 shipped from amazon :p. I'm looking at a 3 fan build for this, and I'm going build it like a triangle to prop up the laptop yet keep it low enough to comfortably use. I'm looking into some polycarbonate sheets right now, I'm just unsure how to attach everything.
