Im looking for a comfy highback chair, anyone know of any I can research?
-
Why not just go to Staples and sit in a bunch of them? Staples has a bunch of desks and chairs.
-
the eames lounge chair is beautiful, but in this case, useless (too bad)
how about the aeron from herman miller? that is a great chair for desktop with good support and nice ergonomics -
I use an AK Octane, but it was only available at best buy, and it's no longer on their website. It's really comfortable if you can find it.
-
I'd recommend not getting a leather one and instead opting for a cloth or whatever non-leather chairs out there.
For me, leather chairs get unbelievably uncomfortable once it starts getting hot unless you are blasting the AC all day. -
i have used mostly leather/vinyl chairs in the past. until one day i ordered a pretty nice mesh-back one. i think it was about $300-$350, but i got it for about $200 on overstock.com.
i couldn't be any happier. this thing is very comfortable, if u can get one with lumbar support. the mesh back-type chairs are very nice in the summer time cuz everytime u sit back, u'll feel a nice whoosh of air. this is great for people that have to work long hours while wearin business attire. u get all the comfort of the leather chair, but without the heat and sticky skin.
go check some out at yur local office supply store. get one that fits yur comfort level.
edit: i will have a herman miller chair one day...
-
This is truth. I've never owned a leather office chair, but my car interior is all black leather, and I park outside. It burns to the touch when you sit on it after it's been in the hot sun all day.
-
i saw a herman miller embody in popsci once and i instantly wanted it
-
Herman Miller or Steelcase for seats that are comfy and will hold up. Whatever they have at Costco if you just want a chair that looks nice at first, but isn't exactly comfortable or durable.
-
If you can find an Outlet furniture store that sells Herman Miller or Steelcase chairs you may be able to get a good deal..
Otherwise, I am in agreement with Isend2C, go to Staples, Office Depot..or even a 2nd Hand Furniture store and check out their supply of Computer Chairs..you will be able to try out for yourself and find a good one that personally works for you!
I have a High Back Microfiber...very similar to this:
http://www.everythingofficefurniture.com/off-microfiber-office-chair-4.html
It's very comfy..has been for a few years..now I'm on the hunt for something more *eclectic* to match my desk & decor!

The problem with most highback chairs is they don't have moveable arm rests, my desk sits higher then my chair so
-
That's why it would just be best for you to store and have a look at an assortment of chairs available to get a *feel* for what you want.

Herman Miller Aeron Chairs, they are godly. When I interned last summer, oh my god, they were amazing.
-
Problem is that most stores here don't have a large selection. Fry's was terrible, and best buy was ugh. Is staples or office depot good or just as bad?
-
What's your budget?
-
Staples has a nice selection of chairs
Office Depot not so bad..but I think Staples has a good selection
Also, Office Max...
And, try and check out some of your local Furniture Dealers *Outlet Stores* you would be surprised at the deals you can get at them.
Do you have any 2nd Hand Furniture Stores around??? I've seen some awesome computer chairs at these types of stores, also!

wow..that battery is that in your laptop ?
hey guys..i just got a new chair for myself..it has an awesome backrest..with alcantra material.
if u want i can post a pic of it. -
I used to use Aerons but now I use different variants of the HAG H09's at home and the office. Not as pretty, more expensive, but better built in general for the purpose at hand, 'wears' less - i.e. things don't start rattling around as quickly, and works better for me from a posture point of view.
I think the ergonomic benefits of the Aeron are overhyped. It's just a cool, comfy chair which happens to look very nice, that being what sucks most people in, but starts buckling a little under heavy use.
Sort of like the Dell Precision vs Apple 'Pro' comparison

Bunch of chairs on sale this week:

Either Staples or Office Depot will assemble the chair for you for free (dont remember which). -
Staples will usually do it if you ask..they did if for a friend of mine!
Sometimes they will even further discount their *floor* models..also!

Tigerdirect.com has a nice selection of chairs. Just so you know.
-
If you're within driving distance to an Ikea, I'd highly recommend taking a trip there. They have a wide variety and often at great prices. There's no better way to buy a chair than to test it first-hand before making a purchase.
-
I *heart* Ikea...I would love to use their Poang Chair as a *cough* Computer Chair..Don't see that happening...
They have some sweet, functional & affordable chairs!
Cin
-
Lol.....as a matter of fact, I'm sitting on my Poang chair while replying to your post right now
-
I need a new chair anyway...you liking your.."Paong" David?
-
Yes...tease a bit more with that fact...
...
I will be getting one soon..I'm hoping..What color is yours? And do you have the foot rest, also? -
Cin, how much are these chairs? I wanna join the club.
-
Mine's white
It's exactly like this:
... but I made a few mods.... I added a sheepskin rug on it and of course, it's complimented with a nice leather ottoman
I'm loving it very much
-
They look more like deck chairs lol.
-
it's an indoor deck chair
-
At least they look comfy.
-
you should check out either an aeron or the new embody by herman miller
better chairs for productivity can't be bought =D -
I pretty much would love a lazyboy computer chair, something I can fall asleep in if i wanted lol. but since i'm tall i just need one that can support my neck and back.
-
They're really comfy, since you are pretty much lying on air. I've been stalling to buy one, waiting for it to go on sale. I work at IKEA so I get a nice discount to boot
-
Lying on air you say? Then I know what my next chair is gonna be.
-
Not air, per say, but underneath the seat padding, its just cloth between the wooden frames, so its somewhat of a padded hammock.
Depending on what desk you have, its not the best computer chair, its great for TVs though! -
thats what i was about to say. i used to work for a company that handled all of ikea's home/office assemblies and deliveries, in houston. our crew even built the whole 2nd floor show room in their new building.
i've put hundreds of the "poang" or similar model chairs together, and i'd have to say they won't make the best productivity chair. they are great for lounging around but when it comes to yur bones and health, nothing will measure to a properly designed chair.
if everything goes as planned, i'll have about $1000 to spend on an aeron chair. i can't wait!
-
if you have $1000 you should look at herman miller's new embody instead of the aeron - it is their brand new chair, taking the top spot away from the aeron
-
i was actually lookin at the embody the other day while i was on their site. do u know if the embody comes in a mesh-back type material? i really want a mesh-back cuz of houston's hot and muggy weather. thats why i had my mind set on a aeron cuz of it's award winnin mesh-back designs.
-
I just purchased a Gruga Chair and I love it. They're middle of the road in price, but mine is built well and very comfortable. http://www.grugachair.com

I have this chair and I love it: http://www.staples.com/office/suppl...ess_Supplies_2_10051_SC2:CG32:DP2155:CL142571
-
yes! the embody's fabric back is made of a breathable materials
the chair looks funky, but that's what everyone said about the aeron when it came out
as a long time aeron user, i love the new embody - the way it just fits your body is amazing
take a drive to OP Houston - worked with them a few times and they are a great group
you can check out an embody in their showroom

About 6 years ago, I bought a very similar looking chair at Office Depot (or Max, can't remember) and love it. It took about 3-4 years of heavy abuse before the plastic arms snapped in front by the bolts. I wouldn't say that was really an issue with the chair, but more because I tend to adjust a ton when I'm on the computer and got in the habit of lifting myself up by pushing down on the arms. My husband added some aluminum braces to the base of the arms and it works perfectly. And with the exception of a bit of dirt/residue where our palms touch the armrests, it looks brand new. Best $120 I ever spent on a chair.
-
That's a very radical chair.

wow that setup looks hardcore. only gripe would be that it would suck for low sensitivity players. there's no space for big mouse movements
-
Just add a wider/longer extension 4 the mouse and u r done. The seat seems to b very confortable though.
-
I've got myself a fake aeron I found on Craiglist. $20 baby. Mesh chairs really are the stuff.
-
anyone else besides me prefer non-highback chairs?
-
I prefer highbacks myself. I like to rest my head somewhere when I lean back.
Anyone know a good chair?
