I recently bought one because of the value... they are pretty nice, but it makes a buzzing sound which is kind of annoying. Anyway, just wanted to see what other WD owners think of theirs if there are any.

Yeah, I have the 500GB MyBook. It's really great and good looking. I like the auto-on/auto-off on bootup/bootdown. The dual interface IEE1394 and USB 2.0 just makes this all the better of a deal at $200 (that was last year).

Yep I have the 250GB MyBook. I like it a lot. The sound you are hearing is just the hard drive. Mine does the same thing.

western digital is top notch in hard drives. The external hd's should be no different than the internals.

Western Digital is a reputable make of externals HDs. There was a review of the MyBook recently on this site.

I've got the My Book 250GB like Tim, and I have yet to find a reason to to complain about it.

I have 2. The older silver/gray one in 80gb (I swapped out the drive for a 200gb) and modded it with 2 40mm fans. Then I bought the "extreme" lighted 320gb, and it is really cool, runs very well and is silent (except for the 30mm fan I added to it). Now I have built a 2.5" external SABERNT case with a 40gb VE scorpio drive and it works very well with my laptop (Acer 3050). I have a 80gb VE scorpio on the way from newegg and will install XP pro on it later this week (for the laptop, both are 5400rpm). For the money WD drives are the best. I also have the following WD drives in my desktops: 2 36gb Raptors, 2 40 SATA150's, a IDE 160 & 80gb.
