    I have heard that this bag (medium size) has a tough time with some 15.4 laptops. Also can this bag also fit a 300-400 page text book with a laptop inside? If not I'm open to suggestions.

    I don't know which timbuk2 medium you are talking about.

    I do own a timbuk2 Commute and I needed to go for the large to fit an m1530.
    It's not overly large or anything either, just a couple inches bigger than the medium.

    I believe you could get away with a medium laptop messenger model... but that's about the same size, if not bigger than a large commute.

    @Greg - Thanks.

    @ElevenBee - I was looking at both the Laptop Messenger and Commute Messenger. According to their website the 1530 is about .3 inches too tall to fit in the medium bags.

    What I am more interested in in is whether or not I will be able to throw in a text book, notebook, and the occasional folder in with my laptop.

    because of the new design of the bag and having the laptop compartment be a zippered compartment instead of the old velcro strap, the laptop being too tall keeps the laptop compartment from closing on the new commutes; you'll be needing a large if you opt for the commute.

    Not too much experience with the laptop messenger, all I know is that their built in laptop compartments are a tad smaller than those of the commute (as per Timbuk2's getsatisfaction.com customer service site). I have however used a medium Commute 2007 as well as a large commute 2008.

    My roomate has a 1530 so I was able to road test it before my laptop got here and I found that the new design on the 2008 led to a roomier interior because the notebook is now stowed in a dedicated compartment that is accessable through the back and no longer takes up any space inside the bag leaving the entire interior for anything you might want to carry.

    In previous models, namely the 2007, the laptop used to reside in a lined pocket on the inside of the bag and shared space with your books etc. now that the main cargo hold and the laptop compartment are separate, it deffinitely makes for a roomier bag.

    Large textbook , folders and notebooks won't be a problem for either a lrge or medium. The medium will look bulky however if the book is big enough.

    I am using a medium til my laptop gets here. I carry an 843 page hard bound book, (2) half inch binders and
    (2) composition books as well as a ti graphing calculator a water bottle and an ipod. with this load the medium has no problem closing and does note lose its shape. any more than this though and it probably would deform a little.

    The old commutes did, however, offer a waterproof vinyl lining while the newer models only have the nylon fabric to offer "water resistance".
