Having trouble finding reviews on these. I'm interested in getting away from the Ipod. I did look at the offerings like Creative Zen, and find they feel very cheap....just my opinion!
Anyway, anyone try one of these Sony's? Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Sound quality is supposed to be pretty good, if not on per with Cowon or Kenwood. However, SonicStage - the software you have to use for transferring files with Sony MP3 - is known to be horrible. I am not sure how it 3rd-party softwares can handle Sony mp3, unfortunately.

Yeah, I tend to recommend Cowon mp3 players. :)

Search for "S610" series. (Sony uses a different model number for each capacity and color option, which can make it hard to find reviews if you search for the exact model number.)

Woodgypsy: The S610 series does not use SonicStage. Sony dropped SonicStage and no longer uses it on their newer models. It's just a regular MTP device now, so you can use WMP11 or your favorite media manager or drag and drop from Explorer.

Here's a detailed review of the S610 series.

Anyway, I have Sony's A810 series (different design and styling, mostly) and I love it. As Woodgypsy mentioned, Cowon's products are worth a look too... most of their models are a bit thick and bulky for my taste, but Cowon's new U5 looks really nice.

Windows is the best selling operating system of all time... why don't you use it instead of Mac OS?

Because the best-selling thing isn't necessarily the best for everyone, maybe?

Ah, thank you for correcting my error. And it is good to see Sony finally realized their error. With sound quality of their recent models, I can see they are attractive player now.

But of course, seeing the popularity of iPod, it is apparent not many people care for sound quality. Oh well - if they care for sound quality, we wouldn't have so many overcompressed, horrible sounding CDs now. :(

And "Come on Over" of Shania Twain is the best album made since 1991, then?

Appeal to the popularity means nothing.

LOL... great example... and we can listen to it in our Ford F-Series pickup trucks... the best-selling vehicle in America!

All of a sudden I feel thirsty for some of the best-selling beer in the world....

But... getting back to the original topic... IMO the only real drawback to the Sony S610 and A810 series is that they don't have on-the-go playlists, or any way to queue up the next few songs you want to listen to. I really hope they add this feature at some point. Otherwise they're great.
