I believe that the Alienware community widely agrees that the NZXT Cryo LX is pretty much the best notebook cooler out there in terms of cooling ability. Depending on where you are though, availability may be an isue.

In cases such as this, people likely want it just to extend the life of their system. Either that, or if they plan to overclock compoments (in a gaming laptop most likely), then a cooler can ensure that they stay cool even under stress. -

Many of the well-engineered laptops don't "need" a cooler. But why not? Cooler is better. At home I keep my laptops on my Zalman, even though I know they're perfectly stable without them.

It is not necessarily that the cooling in a computer is bad, but the components can get a lot hotter than expected, if used for more powerful tasks.

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I used to use the CoolerMaster ErgoStand for my Envy 15 and it kept that thing very cool and efficient during gaming sessions. Currently, I am not using anything as I just adopted a 17" Platform. I do recommend one for those peace in mind moments when dealing with heat. I am eying on the U3 for my Elitebook at the moment.
Anyone use a cooling pad?
