I posted this on a different forum (digitalhome.ca) but as this product is only available in the US, from what I can tell, I thought I might get more responses on here.

I'm wondering if anyone has purchased or used the Belkin high speed docking station that connects with an Expresscard(/34). I have only seen a few reviews on the dell (US) website, and some are ok, and some say it isn't worth getting. It has s part number of F5U265 and F5U273 (both apply)

It seems some video cards have a problem with that device, but don't know for sure. The only problem is that I am not able to pose questions to the reviewers on the dell site.

So if anyone has used this product, i would appreciate it if you could share your experience with it.

p.s. basically i am trying to get a laptop without a DVI to output a digital video at 1080i (via a dock or external GPU, ie ASUS XG from CES show) to an HDTV with an HDMI input. This dockhad a dvi output and should be able to connect to an HDMI input via a dvi/hdmi cable. Any other suggestions you might have are welcome.

    Thanks,
    David

    Thanks,
Good to see that there are some options emerging.

I also lots of the negative feedback on the dell website, that's why i'm unsure about the belkin dock.

    I'll have to keep looking.

I noticed that the Targus dock only has a 1 yr warranty, while the belkin one has a lifetime warranty... but i guess i'd rather buy a good product with a 1 yr warranty than a pos with a lifetime warranty.

I too have been looking for a good docking station but found that there are very few that have video support, and even fewer that support a decent resolution. I was pretty excited about the Belkin when I first read about it a few months ago, but the comments on Dell's site are dissapointing.

My 20" Dell monitor is 1680x1050. The max on the Targus is 1600x1200. Am I out of luck on this one because of the 80 pixel difference?

I didn't notice that it only had a resolution up to 1600X1200... i guess i just assumed that ___x1200 was widescreen resolution. I guess i may have to take my chances with the Belkin one, or continue to wait.

My question about these is do they require a drive to be installed? The reason that a normal dock is so nice is because you can plug everything in, but it is mostly just a way to transfer everything to the laptop, instead of an intermediary device (in terms of software need). I miss my old dock, and I have considered these two, but if they require drivers, count me out.

Somebody knows if the Belkin High Speed Dock Station is working fine on Linux?
