Hey guys, I just bought a Logitech Anywhere MX to go along with my K800 wireless keyboard and it works great except for one killer problem: When I click the mouse, it feels too "shallow", so it doesn't feel right when I game on it. So, I'm looking at exchanging it for the Performance MX or the G700.

Now, before everyone tells me to get the G700, my mouse requirements are unique:

    1. I use my G53SW laptop for gaming about 30% of the time (this number will increase when The Old Republic comes out!)

    2. The other 70%, I am browsing the internet, skyping, etc from my couch or bed with my laptop connected to my TV via HDMI. So I NEED my mouse to work on a soft cloth surface without a mouse pad; which is the reason I went with the Anywhere MX's darkfield tech vs the M705 or G700.

    3. I hate the idea of charging the mouse often, which is the reason I went with the Anywhere vs the Performance MX. Seeing that I am limited on my options, I am now reluctantly open to the idea of charging at most 2 times a week (would like this to be 1 time if possible).

    4. I'm upgrading my mouse from an ancient Logitech Mouseman Wheel optical mouse from 2000, which I LOVE, even for my FPS's. So would I really benefit that much with having a "gaming" mouse?

So, what do you all think? Should I get the Performance MX for its improved battery life, ability to work with the same unifying dongle, and its darkfield tech for my couch/bed. Or should I get the G700 for it's performance.

Right now I am kind of leaning towards the Performance MX but I would change my mind if someone can confirm that the G700 works well on their couch and bed. Also, if you have any other ideas, feel free to chime in!

    Thanks!!!!

    1. The G700 is a gamer's mouse through and through, but it's still a comfortable mouse for general use.

    2. I can't speak for the G700 specifically, but most sensors these days have no trouble with soft cloth like beds, couches etc. Stuff like Darkfield and Bluetrack is useful for glass, which "normal" sensors usually have trouble with.

    3. You could try doing what I do, and just plug the mouse in overnight while you sleep and unhook it in the morning. This is with my Razer Mamba, which has about 16 hours of battery life IIRC. I have no idea how long the G700 usually lasts.

    4. Gaming mice typically offer two main benefits over "normal" mice: DPI and response time. The DPI issue is mostly a moot point these days, since even the cheapest gaming mouse has more than enough DPI for most people. As for response times, gaming mice have much higher USB polling rates and thus respond with a delay of 1ms as opposed to 8ms for regular mice. They also usually have other desirable features like plentiful buttons and button configuration software, and adjustable DPI.

    vote G700.

    2. as long as the bed/couch surface is overall flat ( not curvy or wavy), all good mice will work fine.
I tried Orochi on my curvy couch and it stutters, anywhereMX works smoothly --not just glass, ladies n gentlemen--

    3. get some rechargeable batteries,
when the battery's empty you just pop in the new one, will take no longer than plugging a cable, and you stay wireless.

Honestly, if you like your old Mouseman that much, why bother replacing it?

I am not sure if spedning $100+ for a mouse is really what you want. Not saying the mouse if not wroth it but you ready have a very very decent mouse.

I am currently using the MX MINI (got it years and years ago) still works great. I was thinking of getting a new mouse as well since I just ordering the same laptop as you In the end I decided not to. Why pay for something extra when nothing is wrong with my old mouse. Sure it doesn't have all those fancy buttons as the G700 but the grop and buttons of my MX Mini works just fine and battery is rather good.

G700 as well. If you are going to play MMO's the G700's ample button can really help with macroing. Also, the battery lasts like two days on intense use (meaning 1000 Hz polling and 4000 dpi), but can hit like four days if you set your profiles carefully so during general use, you can have the G700 run on 500 Hz polling and 1200 dpi.

Also the mouse works while charging and the charging is pretty fast at 1-2 hours to charge back any Ni-MH AA you have in there. A good alternative is to have a few filled rechargeables ready to go, where in matter of seconds really, you can just do a battery swap.

The Performance MX is decent, but for people who knows are keen on sensitivity will feel during gaming that the MX is more sluggish than the G700 strictly on the point of polling. The MX has only a 125 Hz polling, means it takes 8 ms for it to respond to your movements, while the G700's 1000 Hz polling literally hits 1 ms on the lag between response time. That response time can really change how you play a game in regards to reflexes and accuracy.

In a sense, it is because of that high polling that gives the G700 it's bad battery life, but frankly I am able to live with it easily and that boost of polling rate really helps and totally makes the G700 worth it.

Also, Logitech gives out many rebates from time to time, so you can pick up a G700 at around $50-$70 USD. Not bad really...

Okay thanks for all the input! I picked up the G700 at logitech's website. What made me pill the trigger was the comments about the battery, also I found a coupon that made it about the same price as the Anywhere. Thanks again for all of the input as I am now sure that i made the right choice!

Agreed. That's why I decided to hold off.

I will admit, this whole "new computer" phase kinda went to me head... Laptop stand, new monitor, usb sound card, blah blah blahh. The only thing I think I am going to order before long are some new speakers dedicated to music only. I constantly have music going, and the Logitech Z-5300's sub (even turned all the way down) can be a little too much for music most times.

Right now I have John Mayer playing, and the sub is over powering. I'm just trying to figure out what I....

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.
