    Are 3 cell and 6 cell batteries the same size??

    are they usually build the same size? (the battery won't stick out) what about 3 cells and 8 cells?

    depends on the notebook type. usually up to about 6 cells are small enough to fit, when you get to 8/9 cells and above you'll sometimes have one that sticks out.

    just depends on the model.

    It'll be totally dependent on the laptop it's designed for. Sometimes they design it with a smaller battery configuration in mind. Othertimes, with a larger. For instance, the Gateway 6 cell and 8 cell are the same size on the current 17" series. However, the 12 cell sticks out the back a bit. On other units, a 6 cell and 8 cell are two different sizes sometimes. So obviously Gateway designed the 8 cell to fit...and probably the 6 cell is bigger than necessary, just to maintain fitment. So the answer is, "it depends".
