I haven't seen anyone mention any sling bags much. Do people find them uncomfortable? I was looking at this everki one:

Can someone provide some feedback please before I spend money. Are they comfortable? What are the drawbacks versus backpacks or messengers? Thanks in advance.

I used one before (not for laptop) and I personally would not use it with a lot of weight. If your laptop is somewhat heavy then I would opt against it. They are better than messenger bags, but not as good as a backpack.
Stating the obvious I'll just say one shoulder will hurt after a while. Backpacks are better becaue they distribute the weight evenly and also the weight is suppose to be supported by applying pressure to your lower back. This relieves strain from just the shoulders (i.e. camping backpacks have lots of cusion on the lower back).
If you're not carrying that much go for it. If you are it might not be comfortable in the long run. I think sling bags are just designed for style and maybe ease. Other than that I don't see any adantage over a regular backpack.
btw I had a messenger bag for my old laptop (nearly 10lbs) and it would get very uncomfortable caring it for more than 10min. I don't think walking with a lean for that long is good for your posture too. Probably end up walking in circles... -
Thanks for the reply, mc003. I would be carrying a 640m with an extended battery plus possibly one more for backup, another device the size of a router and an AC adapter. So yes, I guess the weight could add up. No books though. The more I think about it though, I'd be using this for walking, biking and on public transport, so I think you're right and a backpack would fare much better in the long run.
Anyone know any good affordable sources for backpacks in Canada (Ontario or online)? Thanks.
