Are these reasonable laptop backpack criteria?

    I'm looking for the following:

    1. Padded backpack bottom
    2. Self-standing (comes from padded bottom extending to the entire bottom of the backpack I guess)
    3. Waist belt
    4. Water bottle pocket (standard 32 oz nalgene compatible)
    5. A nicely padded laptop enclosure where the laptop is suspended 1" or so off the floor inside.

It would be ideal if the laptop could fit up to a 17", but at this point I'm interested in packs that will fit these criteria.

    Thanks!

I have the "Book Bag Daypack", which has been great for the 12-15" laptops I've had over the years. My memory of its fit with the 15" might mean it would be pretty ambitious to fit a 17", but the other models might be better.

Oh, it's not "self-standing" unless your bag is full.

@op checkout the Swiss Gear and Mobile Edge line. Both make various models that might work for you :)

Sounds kind of like what I've got, it's a High Sierra and was a freebe cause I used to work retail. Might be able to do the 17" but has enough pockets and other crap I could pack an armory in it with my computer.

I got a Swiss Gear backpack from Sam's Club for 40 bucks. It meets all your criteria. (it stands up if theres enough stuff in it) and fits a 17" laptop. Anyways, definitely check them out- they make solid backpacks.
