Does anyone have any experience with the Astro/ MLG "Scout" backpack? I haven't seen any reviews already posted, but my apologies if I happened to miss one. I've ordered my Alienware M17X (which should be here by Thursday!!!) and I need a bag to protect it while I travel. I plan on joining GameBattles for PC (StarCraft 2) and I figured the bag might as well match. From the looks of it on their site, the bag looks pretty solid, with plenty of room for accessories. I usually bring along the Razer Deathadder and the Naga, along with whatever mouse pad I decide to bring that day. I usually also have quite a few HDMI cables and the like, but I'd also like some extra space for deodorant, toothpaste, etc. for when I'm staying with a friend. So, anybody?

mine was literally delivered today! so far it looks really solid and i'll be using it for college so hopefully it stands up

it should carry everything you want to with ease and the lining for the laptop compartment is amazingly soft (it's a plush type lining)

Cool man, congratulations on getting it today, I'm more than likely going to order one, they look pretty cool, and from how you describe the laptop liner it sounds protective enough that I shouldn't have to worry too much about anything happening to my M17X :)

Yep it should protect even from a fall of a few feet (not that i'd try :p ).

Also, you probably know this, but if you want to avoid advertising what's inside, there's a version that has the Astro triangle thingy instead of the MLG logo on astro's website.

That's pretty cool man, I knew Astro had non-MLG edition A40's, it never really dawned on me to look for the backpack there though, thanks for the tip! :D

I've had it for a few months now. I also have and M17X. The Scout will be able to fulfill all of the needs you mentioned and then some. It provides great protection like others said and it also has a very low profile compared to how much it can hold. There are several mesh pockets that can hold your HDMI cables and two controller pouches that hold mice perfectly. I highly recommend the Scout.

No actually I don't. I'm glad I don't lol. I don't really like the way the look, but they have a pretty damn good warranty.

Where do you exactly hold the laptop in the Scout? Do you hold the laptop in the laptop compartment or the console compartment. Because some members claim that the laptop compartment is tight on the Asus G73 so they hold it in another compartment but does that feel awkward that the weight isn't directly on your back. I actually own an Alienware Orion backpack. My first 1 started tearing and ripping from all sides but they happily replaced it. My 2nd one is showing some tear on the right strap. It's definatly lasting longer than the first one but i might call Dell and ask either a refund or replacement.

If i happen to get a refund I'll probably purchase the Scout for my Asus G73. Though what i really loved about the Orion is the amazing weight distribution, when you lift my bag it's heavy i believe my bag weighs 7kgs with all my stuff but as soon as you put it on your back it feels light.

The Scan Fast technology is also very convenient because i travel at least twice a year.

I hold mine in the console compartment. It fits perfectly to my liking. The G73 is bigger than the R3 I hear. The text I put in bold above is true for me as well.

    Measurements:
    Asus G73: 16.3" (W) x 12.6” (D) x 1.8” (H)
    Alienware M17x R3: 15.98" (W) x 12.65"(D) x 2.11" (H)

If i do end up buying the Scout do you think the area outside the console compartment is sufficient enough?

There is a lot of room outside of the console compartment but it is not very secure. Your laptop would not be nearly as protected as it would be in the console compartment. From those measurement it looks like the G73 would fit in the console compartment very snug. I personally would want it to be as snug as possible without it being ridiculous. The way I put my R3 into the compartment consists of me setting the bag on a floor or table and securely hold the console compartment open while sliding my R3 in for a nice tight fit.

Out of context, this is the most amusing sentence I've read today.

It has, however, made my decision of which bag to get a bit easier.

Thank you on both fronts ;)

    ^^
That is the most smoothest way to put my G73 in my Alienware Orion backpack. and sometimes i have to slightly lift the laptop compartment for it to completely slide in.

I had the Scout for almost one year now, and it had no problem fitting my M17x-R2 in either compartment.
