So I am thinking about picking up either of these sets, and I was hoping that folks with experience with either could post and let me know what your thoughts are. I currently have a set of Logitech G930's, which I find ok for home use (these are strictly gaming cans) and a set of Razer Moray+ IEM's for my mobile gaming. I am hoping the pick up with the Astro's to use with my home PC, laptop, mobile gaming (i.e. PS Vita/3DS) and my PS3.

I currently own both of these. I got the a30's thinking that I would use them on the go and I really don't care for them or use them. There aren't much smaller than the a40's, are uncomfortable and the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. I've had the a40's for two years now and I love them. I would gladly spend the extra money to get a40's as they are far better than what the a30's have to offer. They are extremely comfortable, light, durable and surround sound is amazing. My only observation has been that if the source you're using doesn't provide good quality, the sound quality on the a40's is just as bad as a really cheap pair of headphones. (Like an iPhone or tablet, etc.)

That being said, hopefully others can give you other options to look at around this price point. If it's just between these two, get the a40's.

If you go with the A40's, I would recommend the Astro MixAmp with it. I don't own the A40's but I use the MixAmp on a daily basis and its given me great results with my Sennheiser HD595's and Audio Technica ATH-M50's. Both sound great, and if what AboutThreeFifty says about the A40's is true then you definitely want a DAC to drive them.
