Which has better quality sound? Without price being a issue whats better? has anyone had a chance to try both or according to other reviews?
-
anyone????

anyone? im guessing no one has tried both, because they are pretty damn expensive.... I was also looking at the psykos... but i dont really want an external soundcard, that would be a pain in the butt...

I haven't used either, but I do have the Carcharias, which is essentially a cheaper stereo version of the Megalodon. I love it...mic quality is great according to the people I talk to with it, and the sound quality of the actual headphones is really good. Games come to life, and they're not bad for music either, unless you listen to ultra bass-heavy UNCE UNCE UNCE UNCE techno or hip-hop. The bass is balanced, which is to say, not overpowering.

i think i may go for the megalodons... i cant seem to find any dealers in canada for the astros. does anyone know of any canadian vendors?

I'd recommend the Logitech G35s instead of the Razer Megalodon. You can get them a good deal cheaper, and from the reviews I've seen general opinion seems to be that the G35s just slightly beat out the Megalodon.
In terms of pure sound, I do think looking at the comparisons I've seen that the G35 is slightly better in terms of surround sound clarity.
Personally I've only had them a few hours and they have already amazed me. Good stereo quality for music (although nothing spectacular-not compared to my Bose on ear headphones at least-they do provide nice stereo playback), absolutely fantastic and immersive surround sound, they're comfortable for long periods, and the mic is very clear and high quality (although there is a slight delay between speaking and playback).
Where the Megalodon might win it is where you need 'plug and play' qualities. The G35 requires the drivers installed to adjust settings and to deliver surround sound, whereas the Megalodon can be completely adjusted with its in-line controls and doesn't need drivers, so can be used on any PC without problems.
Still, I much prefer the G35's controls on the headset themselves rather than the in-line bulky remote on the Megalodon.
At the end of the day, they are extremely similar in terms of audio playback, from all the comparisons I've seen, and seeming as the G35s are quite a bit cheaper you might want to go for them. -
thanks for the reply!.. I guess im looking for good quality sound as well... for movies and music... but mainly for gameing of course.
Im willing to pay a bit more. I was leaning towards the Psyko set..... but debating throwing that kind of money into a headset. Just sucks ill have to buy an external soundcard. I wish they at least made a small one, and not a big clunky one. -

I would personally just get the Megalodon. It costs less than half of the Psyko headset and sound card, and you certainly won't be missing anything in terms of quality.
-
thats a bummer to hear,,, well im trying to find a headset, that is well rounded... obviously games is the most important,,, movies second, and music third. I was leaning towards psycos, but that breaks my heart to hear they are no good for movies or music
-
I think im leaning towards the Astros or the Megalodons, but they looks sorta cheaply built, from what i ahve seen int he stores, they looks flimpsy..... has anyone here tried the astros?
-
The Megalodon is just fine for music and movies. Just use stereo mode for music.

I have tried the Astros and even though they are very comfortable, I don't feel they are worth 200. The mixamp on the other hand is the sh!t! Why don't you grab the astro mixamp and the turtle beach hpx? That's what I use for music and movies and it sounds great. Google HPX + Astro Mixamp to see some reviews. The psykos should only be used for gaming and that's why they are advertised that way. I don't think they sound horrible for movies and music, I just think that you can get much better headsets for a lot less.

so the turtle beach is better than the astros, and the Razers???

I have the Astro A40s and they look cool, the mix amp is good, but the sound quality of the headphones is nothing special. They are just average stereo headphone w/40mm drivers and they are open ended (no noise isolation). They are comfortable, but the headphone size adjustment doesn't really lock into place so it can slowly move away from where you set them.
The mixamp for dolby digital (virtual 5.1/7.1) is nice though since it works with PC's (works as a usb sound card) and Consoles. Though you probably won't need it for PC and its kind of big for laptop use. Keep in mind it will only do virtual surround sound as it only has one audio output jack. So if you use it with something like the HPX it won't use all of the speakers. Thats not to say virtual surround sound is bad, it can be just as good or better than real surround sound headphones.
I've heard good things about the HPX, they have multi-speakers in each ear and you can set them to stereo mode. They are also relatively cheap.
