After a lot of research etc, I've narrowed it down to these 2 monitors.. I will be using them 50% of the time for seeing films and 50% of the time for gaming. I want to get IPS but my main worry is input lag. I do play FPS so this is my biggest worry. I just wanted some opinions before I decide what to get.

It also seems that according to displaylag.com the VX238H has a 10ms input lag and the MX239H has a 9ms input lag (assuming it is same as the MX279H which is the 27" version of it).

    Thanks

I'd get the IPS. You may or may not notice the additional ghosting/motion blur due to the slower response time, but the better colors and viewing angles will probably be quite noticeable in everyday use. It's generally considered excellent if a monitor has less than a frame (at 60 FPS) of total display lag (input lag + pixel response time).

1MS won't be a huge difference. I've both played games and watched movies on an older Ultrasharp (where ghosting was a serious issue) and while it's bothersome, it's manageable so I doubt any modern IPS screen with decent response time will have any noticeable impact.

I think IPS is the way to go - it's a much better compromise in general IMO.

A lot of TN screens have really noticeably colour shifts, even when you're sitting directly in front of the monitor - and a lot of them also have this undesirable artifact across pixels as you shift your head around. The only reason to go TN IMO is a) 120hz 3D or b) 120hz+ pro gaming.

Yup, I'll probably get the AH-IPS as the input lag is actually the same as the TN screen... I'll be getting it in September hopefully so the price will drop a bit by then hopefully.

Oh, its September now and I'm really looking towards getting the MX239H.. Its 145 quid now (about 35 less than in July) and its really tempting now but is there any comparable IPS screen from BenQ or LG which is worth looking at? Samsung can go to hell as their products just don't work for me..
