Meh, just happened to be the cable I had to hand, with my new macbook I'll be using HDMI for the time being as that's what the laptop has.

1: depends on the workstation my last maximum loaded m6800 with K5100 and Premiercolor screen etc ran me $3675 USD with a discount I called in for. ( 32GB 2X 1T + 512 SSD 4800QM ). but range from $2500-5000 USD per unit.

2: depends on what I am doing, if it is small onsite edits I am fine with 2T, but I do keep large fibre connect storage arrays in work truck and at home.

3: new 8K cineo cameras and 30+MP SLI with ultra high gamut and color ranges ( 160% aRGB @ true 10 bit per primary ) once you start adding all the extra color data in etc they get pretty large

same issue, HDMI = DVI with audio and the possibility of a LAN passthrough. even HDMI 1.4 is pretty iffy on decent 4K

Oh don't worry about it dude, I'm not expecting to change anyone's opinions. Some (one could say most) people swallow the right targeted marketing hook, line and sinker - and furthermore their ego compels them to defend it, is all. I never had that problem.

Meh, I used to dislike macs, and tbh still hate their marketing. It is however the best fit for my needs atm.

Mac Pro desktops actually. compared to rMBP the speed/productivity/product quality difference is exponential.
what do you do other than photography on it?, the screen accuracy is better etc on a number of other laptops, although the m3800 is about the best fit if you want the higher resolution and better gamut in a more stylish package. and TBH if you are a a heavy Adobe photoshop or CS/CC user you may be surprised how much better Adobe is optimizing for windows over OSX

Yes, you already said. Or does a MAC pro not count as a mac?

As already said I don't use adobe much apart from lightroom. I do a bit of video editing, a bit of uni work (office, bit of programming etc), some gaming (with all my favourite titles available on OSX these days), and tbh I decided to give macs a go mainly as I dislike where windows is going.

Also what do you class as accuracy? Surely whatever laptop you have you can calibrate it.

for me I need on the fly REC709 and sRGB conversions for broadcast HD video and motion picture work, so for me it is a minimum of 95% aRGB gamut at 10 bit per primary color ( 1.1billion true not interpolated ). I can not even use a Cinema display and have to go to EIZO, HPO, Dell, and Mitsubishi Screens. in laptops that gives me the m6700, m6800, Elitebook 8570W, 8770W and the HP Zbook 15 and 17.

still run FCPS and FCP-X on a hackintosh 8740W

I did, and yes it does just many find the idea of a $4000 laptop being much better at the job than a $8500 desktop before monitor cost and it is so rare that the Apple desktops come up in this forum I am bad for clairifying

Fair enough. I'm just glad I don't have such strict requirements and therefore more choice.

I thought they were like $4000?

not with the configurations I need to make them semi usable. since Mac Pro trashcans have no Quadro or Titan option ( CUDA and other GPGPU functions not in Fire Pro's ) I need the 12 Core / 64GB / 512 PCIE / D500 version to attempt to make up that shortfall ( about 80% as fast as 4800m/32/1T SSD/K5100m ) but the Mac Pro configuration is $8499.00 USD plus a monitor. ( plus more storage and cables )

should they have the option and cooling ability to run the K5100m or variant or a Titan then they would be a lot more palatable

Fair nuf. Not something that particularly interests me either way. My mac seems to be working well for me atm though.

and if it works for now and you don't need to deal with monster images or have a wait for redraws and renders it will do you quite fine. Its just some of us on the other end of the spectrum that really need the features and speed etc.

I don't doubt it. Not even sure how we got to this conversation in the first place. Of course every machine isn't right for everyone. I'm sure there are people who would cry if they were told they had to try and work on one of your machines. Just got a bit confused by the sudden random mac bashing in a thread that was meant to be about thunderbolt docks.

this is NBR, we get off topic quite frequently on some threads, but as long as everyone is nice and useful information comes out why not continue, many people learn little things from some of our strange off topic threads. looking back I see we have covered information on everything from video interfaces, true docks VS USB VS TB docks and port differences and a bit of information on photo and video editing. In the end many of the lurkers here may have learned something that may help them in the future

Oh yeah, on topic I forgot about the Zendock for the Barbiebooks.

    Zenboxx

It's a Kickstarter project, so... well. i.e. It may not work as shinily in the end as it looks, or should I say even less shinily as the shiny trinket it goes on.

You're almost as religious in your dislike of them as fanbois are in their love of them aren't you? I find it kinda sad when people get that opinionated about a box.

Eh, just having a nickname for a product you don't like doesn't made you an anti-fanboy of sorts. For the early 2000s I used to call Fords "Fix or Replace Daily" vehicles, though now they're decent cars.

But yeah, anti-Apple danboy would probably actively seek out people looking for Apple and dissuade them on at least a semi-regular basis imo. I'm guilty of that sometimes, but only on an objective basis (like Vogelbung).

Well, it's easier to make up names with the Barbiebooks, especially when it tracks with reality so well.

Making up a name for Surface + biblically crap Microsoft support is harder for example.
