I bought a surround sound set, and its output connection is analog. Well that's what I call it...I'm not sure if its the right name..![]()
Here is a quick picture that might help explain what I mean.

I'm not even sure if that's a good picture. >_>
Also the speaker set is the Logitech X-540. I was just wondering if there was a way to convert it, so I could connect it to a optical audio connector.![]()
I realize that the X-540 has a "matrix mode" to imitate 5.1 surround sound. I was just wondering if there was any way to connect it, and get real 5.1 surround sound.
Thanks.

I have never seen such a cable before, it looks like a HDMI to Component cables, is it?
-
I don't really know what the cable is, I just quickly googled for a cable with the 5 analog audio connectors to show for and example...
There is the A/V component cables (Red, White, and Yellow) but that's not what I mean. I was just trying to find and example of the 5 audio connectors used for surround sound. -
No manual?

Thats an xbox360 connector, and its component(video).
That is your sub, which is where you plug everything in. The RCA plugs are OUT puts to the speakers. The 3.5mm plugs are the inputs, which come from your computer. So what you need to do is get a 5.1 sound card, creative sells them, turtle beach probably has some too. I personally wouldn't use a creative one, but I'm picky about my sound. -

Thank you for all the replies.
I guess then I will just have to get a sound card to use it.
I was looking farther to see if there was a way to connect it to a optical connector. Though it seems you need some sort of digital decoder, and it would end up being costly.
Thanks again.

Some speakers have a S/PDIF input, but even with those you need a sound card with an S/PDIF output. Not sure how that works for a 5.1 system, I only use 2.1/headphones. I personally have a Echo AudioFire 2 sound card and honestly its the best I've listened to.
