I mail ordered an Oakley Icon 2.0 for my Fujitsu E8210 (14.2" x 10.2" x 1.4"), it does not fit. Well I can get it to fit but that puts the corners of the laptop stretching the top of the backpack so there is no padding for the top two corners. So much for the Icon fitting a 17 inch laptop. I am hoping to exchange the Icon within the next day or two. But want to figure out what I can exchange it for that will meet my needs and expectations, So I ask what backpack should I be looking at?

I like the idea of having internal padding like a TOM BIHN Brain Cell Sleeve but in a bag with the capacity and variety of uses such as The North Face Big Shot Backpack. Unfortunately, if I read the descriptions correctly the Brain Cell (17.125” × 11” × 2.25” external) will not fit into the Big Shot's laptop pouch (16.5" x 11.3" x 2"). Does anyone know of a backpack that a Vertical Brain cell will fit into, without having to remove the sleeve to get the laptop out each time? In other words I would like to make the Brain Cell a semi-permanent resident of the backpack.

After looking at the Icon I don't think it really works for anything bigger than a 13 inch notebook. The top 3 or 4 inches of my 15.4" Fujitsu would be completely unprotected, I can't imagine how unprotected a longer machine would be. Are all backpacks this way?

I was hoping to move from my portfolio (messenger bag) to a backpack for added cargo room and better protection while I'm traveling.

I have the northface surge pack.......it has a waterproof pouch for the laptop and nice padding for when I put it on my back......the only area not covered to well is the bottom back of the pack incase I drop the backpack.....so what I did is just add a bit of cardboard and put double sided tape to hold it down.....other than that its a solid design, and the laptop area is specificaly made for laptops

this pack is great, it has pockets for a lot of things and plenty of storage for books too....it retails at $100 and is worth it in my opinion, I ride my bike with the laptop, books, cell phone, ipod etc.... and I feel comfortable
