I know there is another thread on bags, but I thought I'd post on this question since it is pretty specific.

I need to carry my E1705 out probably a few times a month, so it's not very often. Having said that, I'd still like a backpack with decent protection for it. Also, I don't want a hand-held case, I need a backpack that can carry it along with other things.

I'm looking at the targus 17" backpack now

Anyone know how it fits a 17"? Some backpacks claim to fit laptops that don't really fit (they end up pushing the backpack outwards). Any other good choices? Thanks.

I just purchased the Dell XPS backpack for my E1705. It will arrive this Friday and I'll let you know how it goes.

I recommend you check some of the review links on my thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=50734 there are a lot of nice bags out there (booq, tombhin, Roadwired, and others) .

I suggest think how much you want to spend and then look at your options. Also consider bags that accept sleeves. Often the sleeves do much better at protecting your laptop than just a padded area in the laptop. Some Like the Tom Bihn the sleeve can be carried separately.

Targus are alright, but generally very plain and basic. Though price is very good.

It's possible that I got a bad one, but I bought one of those when I had an Inspiron 9300. I went on a trip across the country with it and the thing started tearing terribly. All of the seams started coming apart on it, I had to duct tape it back together so it would hold my stuff. I don't consider myself to be somebody that's hard on my stuff; that backpack just fell apart. I also felt that it didn't really provide as much protection for the notebook as I would have liked. Hopefull you're happier with it than I was, but I know ebags has a great return policy.

Did you talk to the people at PacDesign? Usually they are pretty good at such things since most bags now adays come with limited life time warranty. BTW, I just ordered the Booq Boa XL :D Will be using it carry both my e1705 and MBp

I talked to the people at Dell - where I bought it. They refunded the entire purchase price; so basically I got the thing for $9 (what I paid for shipping), so it wasn't a bad deal; but I still figured it'd be worth letting people know my experience with the bag.

I use the one that Dell was selling with it at the time. Works excellently. It's not the XPS bag but not bad looking at all. Lots of room and handly pockets.

I recently completed the same search, i just ordered my e1705, it should be here on friday, i found a really nice bag called the 'Macroloader' on ebags.com, all the reviews said its one of the most durable bags you can get, and i also went browsing around Staples and they carry a couple of really nice backpacks for 17 inchers, i was really impressed with the durability and looks of the swiss army one they had, when i get my lappy im gonna bring it to Staples and see how it fits.

I hope you have fun with your e1705
